Dear Diary: Papa has been at work all weekend. The kids and I have done every activity I can think of and I'm nearing my wits' end. One more game of "Operation" and I'll give myself a lobotomy!

I need something cool and fun to do that doesn't involve buying a bunch of supplies. There's still a pile of pipe cleaners and puff balls in the closet from the last craft project we tried.

Hang on, there's somebody at the door...

Hey, it's a BabbaBox! This is exactly what I needed. (Photobomber not included with every box.)

Each box is a self-contained educational/craft/activity unit based around a specific theme. It's designed for kids ages 3-6, and the card connects each activity with the skills learned (cognitive, motor, discovery, creative).

Our theme was "Sun, Moon, & Stars." There was a storybook to read, and binoculars and a chart for tracking the phases of the moon. We set those aside for nighttime, because we wanted stuff to DO!

There was also a complete set of materials to make a paper mache moon night light--and I really mean complete. It had instructions, glue, bowls, balloons, tissue paper, and even a battery-operated tea light.

We started by blowing up the balloon...

...but got a little sidetracked after dropping it and watching it fly around the living room.

I packed the night light kit back in its package to save for another day. Then we found the coolest project of all: Make Your Own Constellations.

We talked about what constellations are, got out the photosensitive paper and star stickers, and got creating. Significant concentration was required.

Jackjack decided to make a tarantula, and I made a scorpion (not pictured).

"The tarantula has 8 legs, 2 eyes, 1 stinger, and 2 pincers."

We took our creations outside to let the paper do its work. Neighbor Kitty #2 kept us company while we waited.

He was very happy to hang out with us.

We waited for a few minutes, and once the blue color faded it was time to bring our papers in.

A minute in the bathtub, and the star stickers came right off. We set them outside to dry, and when we were done...

...a constellation and a silly face! (In no particular order.) What a fun way to spend the afternoon.
