The Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES) 26th annual Organic Farming Conference is coming up next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 26 through the 28th.  Once again the La Crosse Center will be filled with commercial exhibits and host 67 workshops.  Executive Director Faye Jones says “It’s all about farmers learning from farmers to successfully use organic farming practices.”

The conference appeals to all types of organic producers “who are farming for a living,” says Jones, from the person who sees organic as their life choice to those who see organic as a way to make their farm profitable.

The conference starts with the “Organic University” on Thursday with courses on a selection of topics including soil biology, dairy cattle health care, storage options, farmscale permaculture and beneficial insects.

Thursday evening will feature an orientation for new attendees, a kickoff social and a concert by Susan Werner.

The actual conference starts Friday morning with four rounds of workshops. After lunch, John Jeavons will keynote the conference talking about “the biologically intensive approach to farming is helping growers around the globe increase yields and build soil fertility while using less water.”  There will be another round of workshops Friday afternoon followed by supper, a MOSES Board Social and then a dance.

Saturday morning will feature another four rounds of workshops. A general session featuring the Organic Farmer of the Year will follow lunch with another round of workshops to finish the afternoon.

The exhibit hall and bookstore will be open throughout the conference and film screenings run from 1-to-9 pm on Thursday, 9 am to 7 pm on Friday, 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday. There will be a New Farmer Lounge where beginning farmers can sit-in on roundtable discussions with veteran producers.

The conference is open to the public and walk-in registration is available.  Further details available here:
