One day after Governor Scott Walker presided over a record-setting Blue Ribbon Meat Products Auction, he spurred-on bidders at the 46th annual Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction.  When the gavel came down on Wednesday evening; they had sold 25 animals for a record $313,350.  That breaks the previous high $255,400 set back in 2005 when Tommy Thompson was Governor.

The Grand Champion Steer, a crossbred exhibited by Laruen May of Iowa County sold for $45,000 to Potawatomi Hotel and Casino.

The Grand Champion Barrow, a crossbred exhibited by Myles Leahy of Lafayette County sold for a record $23,500 to Beer Capitol Distributing.

The Grand Champion Lamb, a Hampshire shown by Calvin Reilly of Lafayette County was purchased by Kevin Schuele for $16,000.

While the exhibitors get 80 percent of the sale dollars, a percentage of each sale goes toward a scholarship fund for individuals who have exhibited at the fair and demonstrated leadership and academic excellence.  Debbie Heth of Mineral Point was presented a $2,000 scholarship, Clint Dallas of Shawano received $1,500 and $1,000 scholarships were presented to Allison Luety of Clinton, Sara Griswold of Black Earth, Morgan Denzer of Pulaski and Jane Beyer of Weyauwega.  $500 scholarships awarded to: Austin Wenck, East Troy; Hannah Waldron, Franksville; Jessie Thompson, Rio; Samantha Straley, Elton; Jared Radcliffe, Weston; Mikayla Kind, Jefferson; McKenna Kent, Green Bay; Morgan Eilers, Weyauwega and Jacob Adams of Platteville.
