2020-03-24

Dear all

I am writing to update you and clarify the position of Brooke and District Cricket Club with regards to the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the forthcoming 2020 season.

Your management committee met last week in order to put in place plans in anticipation of future ECB announcements. Unfortunately, as I’m sure many of you are aware, the ECB subsequently announced the suspension of all recreational cricket and associated activities. In practical terms this means that all planned preseason events, training, groundworks etc have had to be cancelled with immediate effect. We have also been informed via the Norfolk Cricket Alliance and Norfolk Cricket League that the league seasons have been postponed indefinitely pending further ECB and Government updates. Further to the above and following further government advice, we can confirm that Brooke House Park will be closed and the gates will remain locked until further notice. We would request that all club members respect this decision.

As you may or may not be aware subscriptions for the 2020 were reduced to £20 from the previous level of £75 at the recent AGM. This decision was made to reflect the changing nature of modern recreational cricket and participation. Match fees were increased to £10/game for senior cricket to introduce more of a ‘pay as you play’ structure to our clubs finances. Despite the fact that there is a very real chance we won’t be playing any cricket this year, the club and it’s management committee are asking for all members and players to, wherever possible, still pay a £20 individual subscription or £50 for a family of 3 or more, in order that the club can continue to survive through these troubled times. Whilst our outgoings won’t be significant if the club remains closed, we still need to pay insurance, utilities bills, league fees etc, and any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Membership fees can be paid via BACS or cheque payable to “Brooke & District Cricket Club” and should you have any queries please contact Karl Gessner, Membership Secretary directly.

I have no doubt you have all seen the latest advice from the UK Government to reduce social contact and prepare for a considerable period of disruption as we continue to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

As a club, we have always put the best interests of our players, members, families and visitors first. We also have a very loyal, experienced and motivated committee. All this stands us in very good stead for the turbulent times we face.

Given that this current situation is unprecedented in living history, I have never had to send out an e-mail like this – At this difficult time, I would like to make the following requests to everyone involved with Brooke CC.

Please follow the UK Government advice and do all you can to reduce social contact which in turn will reduce the future strain on the NHS.

Look after yourselves, your friends and families.

Lastly, please help us to look after our club and to make sure we remain strong and sustainable for the future.  We want Brooke CC to come through this challenging time and provide a safe environment where we can all congregate and enjoy some recreational sport and each other’s company once we get through these unprecedented times!

Please keep connected, wherever possible. We’ll do our best to update on any Covid19 guidance with respect to our cricketing activities as and when we can, in the meantime if you have any specific queries in relation to this email or any other club matters please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of the management committee.

Please stay safe!

Best wishes

Richard Hayman
