The 18th Annual CineGear 2014 show was packed with a wonderful assortment of technologies and seminars which showcased many Digital Cinema Camera technologies, Camera Mounted Drones, and Special Events! The intimate show featured opportunities for professionals to have one-on-one time with featured manufacturers without the chaos of a show the size of NAB! The focal point of the show was of course Cine-centric and this made for nice setting for the professionals to actually have “hands-on” with the new technology releases! Here is just a taste of the action.

Pictorvision™ showcased their visually stunning 36K multi camera array  which consisted of 6 RED Dragon Cine cameras. The design was unique and the overall demonstration of the world’s leading supplier of stabilized camera systems was truly amazing! “The 36K multi camera array is for visual effects plate-shots,” said Tom Hallman, Pictorvision President. “It’s 6 RED Dragons. Six times six is 36K. It’s 140 degree wide field of view by 60 degree high. The idea is you shoot very wide with very high resolution plate shots and then in post production you stitch them together and you have this giant palette to then pan-and-scan and frame for your visual effects work.” The ability to handle the payload was noteworthy- given the sleek overall design of the unit! “It’s a gyro-stabilized head which allows for the stitching to be batch processed which makes it that much easier for the visual effects guys,” Hallman said. “All the cameras are perfectly steady, and that makes it much better than guys who had been forced to simply bolt cameras to boards and deal with cameras that move in different ways.” For more information on Pictorvision visit them at:  http://www.pictorvision.com/

SONY (this years Cine Expo Platinum Sponsor) showcased the ever popular F55 CineAlta 4K digital cinema camera with the pristine image quality where digital cinematography, as well as, live broadcast  can reap the benefits of shooting in either 4K, 2K, or HD. Sony made a wonderful impression to the conference goers! Also, SONY demonstrated the true meaning of  streamlined 4K workflow by having the special 4K screening of A Million Ways to Die in the West which was shot with the Sony F55 Camera in 4K and projected with the Sony 4K digital projection system! The event was held at the Paramount Theater with free admission. The place was packed and was well worth the visual experience! “At Cine Gear 2014 we’re showing off 4K technology everywhere, from acquisition to display to workflow and pretty much everything in-between,” Peter Crithary, Marketing Manager for Production at Sony told PVC Magazine. “We’re showing off the F65, V4, which has live color grading on output. We have the MoVI M15 model that supports the F55 which is coming out in August. We also have the FS700 camera which is the under 10K 4K camcorder that supports output to the Odyssey 7Q recorder, so you can record 2K and 4K RAW as well as ProRes. We worked with Convergent Design to enable support for the RAW signal coming out of the 3G-SDI output of the FS700 to do 2K and 4K RAW recording. So it’s very exciting.” For more information on SONY visit them at: http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/home.do
