2014-01-28

I’m back with part two of sharing my favorite papercrafting collections from the CHA 2014 Mega show. As a refresher, I’ve broken my favorite collections down into 8 categories of Basics, Travel, Spring/Happy, Girl/Vintage, Summer, Love, Home, and General/Family. I shared my favorites from the first four categories the other day  and will be talking about the latter four today.

Please note that I think all of these collections are absolutely fantastic! I chose my favorites based off of trends, diversity amongst my picks and what I think you will like as well. I included runners-up for each category so that I could share other loves that I have. Please do check out all the ones you find interesting and let me know which collections are your favorites in the comments on this post!

SUMMER – Echo Park – Summer Bliss by Lori Whitlock

Why this is awesome: I saw a ton of summer collections at CHA, as is the norm, but this one really stood out to me because of the unique color scheme (fantastic balance of bold brights and warm pastels) and fresh motifs. Those graph-inspired circles alone (3rd picture, right side) were enough to mke me fall in love. Lori Whitlock has a knack for designing lines that appeal to a wide range of people, and she’s definitely hit the nail on the head with this summer collection once again.

LOVE – We R Memory Keepers – Sheer Metallic

Why this is awesome: I just… I can’t even get over this collection. WRMK took me completely by surprise as a force to be reckoned with in the papercrafting collections category. This line takes a huge risk by not having any non-specialty papers, but this screams “buy six of everything” as much as if not more than anything I saw at the show. Metallics are HOT, and they’re not going away any time soon. I especially loved their equal treatment of gold, silver and copper as all key players in this line. I know most of us are gold-crazy right now, but who knows when silver will come back around as the “it” metallic? The wood accents and washi are fantastically executed and showed restraint that really makes this line something special: elegant, edited and versatile beyond belief.

FLORAL/HOME – Simple Stories – Home Spun

Why this is awesome: Simple Stories does several things well that I’ve always liked, but it wasn’t until this show that I felt like their collections appealed to me and you versus a beginning scrapper or someone who wants to make a simple album for someone else (not that either one of those are bad things). The name Home Spun drums up some good heartstring-pulling thoughts and emotions, and that’s what this line it’s about. It’s about being together and having a basic line to cover everything that might happen within your home life. They did a fantastic job pulling in some newer trends while still keeping the line balanced enough to be the base for an entire scrapbook.

GENERAL/FAMILY – Fancy Pants – Be Different

Why this is awesome: As you probably are aware, I wouldn’t normally be in the market for a “boy” line. That’s why Fancy Pants absolutely wins this category, because with Be Different they make me want to buy a boy line. Not only are the accessories top notch (I really feel like Fancy Pants has gone in a fantastic direction with that category), but the patterns and motifs throughout the collection don’t scream “no girls allowed!” but seem more likely to say “let’s have an adventure.” Plus, that flair assortment kicks some serious butt.

Love,

Britta
