GRAFTON kicks the carnival off THURSDAY.
Looking like it will be a SOFT surface. Let’s run the eye over them.
Race 1:
You can put a line through a lot of these off some pretty ordinary trial. Sometimes they can be misleading and not try on them but some of these went like busted bums.
Of the debut runners I’M A REBEL clearly looks the best. The jock did absolutely everything to let one go past in the straight but couldn’t get the horse beaten it was going so well. May have been a poor bunch trialing but looked to have laps on them. Would be showing plenty of respect.
ZUMIKON, BUNNY BAD GIRL and SHELLY BEACH ROAD have all raced well and have the runs on the board.
ZUMIKON ran 2nd to the handy Spot the diff on debut at the Sunny Coast but the return run was pretty ordinary. If he shows up he can win.
SHELLY BEACH ROAD was backed from $31 to $15 and went super behind the smart CHARLEE BEAR last week, also beat a smart one home on that occasion. Looks handy.

Race 2:
Keen to stay away from punting here. A lot of these trialled against each other with not much between them.
The trial that LUV OUR STRATUM was in hasn’t been flash but I didn’t mind what I saw there. If it popped up double figure I may have an interest bet but not much.
Race 3:
Think we can survive without betting here can’t we?
Race 4:
Looks a race with limited chances.
KEMANDIE STAR has been good around our region, well-bred and should be looking for further on that breeding, may try to win here and back up in Guineas? If that’s the plan you have to win this to be a chance there. I didn’t mind the recent trial and the blinkers 1st time may be the key.
MENNEKE BELLE has been competing really well without winning. Last start was 4 wide most the way, looked the winner but just tired late. Has run on well her last four starts and should be able to be midfield and give this a shake.
KYOTO ROSE has support first up and that’s usually a sign with this stable that they are going alright. Respect money again here with the 54kg.
BRANDY BALLOON and CHERRY LADY best of the rest and warming to SPINNING QUARTERS

Race 5:
Like the race ACADEMY HILL comes out of (ran 2nd) with the winner I’M A JET and the 3rd horse REVELIO both coming out and winning again. Only the one win but seven placing to go with it from his 13 runs to date. Will be on speed and hard to beat.
Should be genuine edge off the track and banking on that to be CARRY ON JAKEs chances. Had been going ok around Sth East Qld being beaten around 4L by the likes of Bourban Road and Oradonna lines up alright for this, but career best run was last start when he got onto a wet track and blitz a maiden field.

Race 6:
Rekon the 1100m is as far as BOWIES BABE wants but this is a great race for her and placed well by Leon Davies. She gets a good gate and should be able to park just behind the speed. On top.
I’M A JET looking to make it 4 straight wins but does get the big weight and wide gate, he is more than good enough to win but think he will probably pop up under the odds in this.
I am sure Portatorio isn’t right at the moment but WONDERFUL THING still beat him home last week and has to be some hope here. Back to 1100m probably suitable also.
MEDIA MAID was a touch unlucky at the GC last start in what was a pretty handy little race. From the good gate and up to 1100m she may be able to sit a touch closer and Hammersley stays on, can win.

Race 7:
Will have a look when prices come out but may play quinellas and trifectas.
COASTAL GEM, EXPLOSIVE ONE, DREAM SPEED and SHADOW REIN look the main players.
The provincial staying race at Ippy looks a good form race with a heap of them running excellent next time out. That measures up fantastic for COASTAL GEM who wasn’t far off AMEXED and ALL CLEAR who won and placed in the SC cup last week.
EXPLOSIVE ONE just looks like she wants this trip now, not much luck over 2000m a couple of runs back.
DREAM SPEED comes off the Murbah cup win where everything panned out super and the ride was perfect. Wetter the better for her but a soft 6 is still ok.
And SHADOW REIN continues to run well on soft track and in good form.

Race 8:
Nothing would surprise in this race.
Just like the way CROSSROAD is going and pretty much beating the pattern of the day at Ipswich was excellent. Goes well around Grafton and just has to overcome the wide gate to be very competitive. Not sure the $5 represents any value so may be a no bet race for mine.
