Joanne Chung might attend Farina Murray's event

Garden Visit FREE at Cannon Hill

March 15, 2014 from 9am to 11:30am

This months GV will be at Farina and Julian's garden, in Cannon Hill.Farina's words:We've been growing food for around 7 years now and just love it :) Our garden has gone through many incarnations! In its latest form, we are trying to draw a little more inspiration from permaculture, really trying to think about how and where the different varieties might grow best, with most rewarding output for least amount of effort put in. That's the general plan anyway...!Translating this into our average sized suburban garden means that we concentrate on growing plants that grow well in our climate (tropical/subtropical)... that we also like to eat. Okra, bittermelon, pawpaw, cassava, sweet potato, pumpkin, tomatoes and herbs are probably the things that we grow most often (luckily, we've spent a bit of time in the islands so we like most of the foods that grow well!).Recent additions to our garden include a banana, pawpaw and okra circle and a keyhole garden for tomatoes around our compost pit. We are also working on an aquaculture setup - maybe we can get some tips from those in the know! :) We've also got a few  older established fruit trees (citrus, mango) and some newer ones (mulberry, black sapote, cherry guava, macadamia, pomegranate - probably too many really, just get a bit excited at bunnings..;) There's plenty of work in progress and I look forward to  showing everyone around when things are better established but hey - there's never a better time than now!Ground has a gentle slope, with limited shade unfortunately in the mornings, hence the early start. I'll try to get a shade cover up. I think we'll have enough chairs (around 15 available)..Plenty of on street parking.   Children are welcome but must be supervised by their parents. Please bring a small plate of food or drink to share plus any seed, produce etc that you would like to share, swap or sell.Street address will be provided to those who RSVP closer to the date.Join the Garden Visit group for information on how to attend or host a GV.See More
