Synopsis of production
Papercut is a British realism/fantasy short film that delves into a drug addicted couple’s (BRUCE & HAYLEE) lives. After stealing the possessions of a mysterious old woman, HAYLEE discovers an ancient book that immediately transfixes her. Hiding it from BRUCE, She soon finds out that the book has the power to “feed” her addiction but only at a price. How far is she willing to go?
Characters
Bruce: MALE, TWENTIES, THIN & TALL
Bruce has been In a relationship with Haylee for a few years but has been in a longer relationship with heroin. He is thin,lanky and extremely aggressive. The relationship he has with HAYLEE is bipolar and schizophrenic as they both roam desolate streets and alleyways to find some sort of money or way to make money. Thick swansea accent is preferable.
Haylee: FEMALE, TWENTIES, THIN
Haylee was a lonesome drifter with a troubled past that inevitably led her to the life of an addict then she met Bruce and things never got better for her. She is feisty, cunning and most of all a survivor. She has become consumed by her drug addiction and will discover to what lengths this addiction may take her. She has a venomous relationship with the love of her life BRUCE but which is the stronger addiction? Swansea accent preferable.
Bruja: FEMALE, LATE FIFTIES.
Bruja is a mysterious old lady, no one quite knows her story and most leave her be that is until BRUCE and HAYLEE decide to take what is hers.
