It is no unknown fact anymore that OLED TVs are fantastic. The good news is that we will be seeing more of the technology now this year; what with Panasonic, Phillips and Sony entering the OLED arena, in competition with LG. The new entrants in the field are not being taken lightly by LG though, which has announced at least five various OLED television models for the year 2017.
The new OLED models offered by LG all differ from one another. In order to give you an idea on the key differences and which is the right selection for you, the following is a list of the main models, as well as their price and features.
6 Features To Be Aware Of About LG TVs’ For 2017.
1) OLED is leading the pack.
We saw this coming, as LG has probably been the only brand that has been developing and pushing the OLED technology for years now, while the competition was miles behind with LED integrated LCD screens.
The hard work has definitely paid off for LG, as it is now manufacturing panels to Panasonic and Sony so that the latter can produce their own line of OLED TVs. Other than that, LG has gradually released its latest range of televisions consisting of five models and dimensions ranging from 55 to 77 inches, and prices between £2999 and £24,999.
2) The OLED is better than ever
There are more than enough persuasive reasons to purchase OLED, with just one tiny drawback which the competition doesn’t miss an opportunity to highlight; peak brightness. Unfortunately, OLED’s brightness just cannot compare to a LCD. However, on the brighter side (pun intended), OLED can reach new depths of deep blacks for its dark areas, which has always been a good counter-argument.
As of now, the argument in favor of OLED technology is stronger than ever simply because LG has successfully amped up the peak brightness on its contraptions to approximately 1000 nits, which is on the same level as the best LCD models of 2016.
3) More than just OLED
LG loves to boast about its OLED, and with good reason, but it is not neglecting the addition of LED LCD models. Six product ranges are in the mix, with screen dimensions ranging from 43 to 86 inches, all compatible with IPS panels.
Out of the six, three of the ranges are popularly dubbed as ‘LG Super UHD TV 4K’ models and utilize Nano Cell technology, which the parent company claims will be more accurate with colors, viewing angles and deeper blacks.
4) There's Wide HDR compatibility
High Dynamic Range or HDR, provides a vast range of colors, contrast and brightness, and currently is among the top ‘must-have’ features. Still, it is too early and the AV industry on the whole hasn’t yet reached a verdict on which format to use, resulting in LG to have a double safety insurance.
The basic HDR10 format is supported as well as Dolby Vision- a cinema favorite. Additionally, LG’s very own Active HDR is also supported, which apparently adds Dolby Vision’s metadata to HDR10 sources. Moving on, there is also HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) upcoming, along with Technicolor’s Advanced HDR format.
5) There's no 3D – and no curves
As LG moves full speed ahead, trying its best to secure its lineup for the future, it has decided on ditching both 3D technology and curved screen designs. Rumor has it that it is due to the significantly less demand for them.
6) There's an updated Smart TV interface
Debatable, but LG produces the best of the best software for television. The WebOS menu has a set standard now for many features, but still nobody has been able to execute it quite as well. The latest upgrade stands at WebOS 3.5 now, which doesn’t really change a whole lot, but there are significant improvements in performance and a couple of major tweaks. A personal favorite of ours is the ability to assign numbers on the remote to our most used apps. It is like having Netflix set on speed dial!
LG ‘OLED TV 4K’ MODELS – TOP OF THE RANGE
We will now cover the top models in LG’s lineup for 2017. Let’s start with the crème de la crème- OLEDs. According to LG, all the models mutually share the exact same panel, processing and chipset so essentially, the picture quality should more or less be the same.
Peak brightness is up to 1000 nits in all the sets. All of them can handle and render 10-bit color and feature identical polarizing filter, which is used on top of already present anti-reflective film so the contrast ratio improves. This means that the main differences basically are the model design and sound output system.
LG’s Signature OLED65W7
Sitting pretty at the top is LG’s W7 OLED- the W standing for ‘wallpaper.’ We need to talk about this; it is phenomenally thin and ever so slightly flexible. The heavier components- sockets, power, sound etc. all are packed into a huge Dolby Atmos soundbar. This is why LG has deemed this model as its signature design, because it is just so incredible!
The main specifications are:
OLED77W7- 77 inches
OLED65W7- 65 inches
On- Wall aesthetics
2.57mm thin
4K HDR OLED
10-bit colour processing and panel
Dolby Vision/HDR10/HLG/Advanced HDR by Technicolor
WebOS 3.5
High-Luminance
HDR Effect
Dolby Atmos soundbar – 60W, 4.2 channel
LG’s G7 OLED:
This too is another signature TV model in the lineup. It is very comparable to last year’s G6 model in the context that the G7 too sports an ultra slim picture-on-glass frame design, as well as a foldable sound base that doubles as a wall mount.
The main specifications are:
OLED77G7 (higher price)
OLED 65G7 (lower price)
4K HDR OLED
Picture-on-Glass design
10-bit colour processing

LG OLED65E7V
LG’s E7 can be said to be a subtle version of the G7 model; with the exact picture-on-glass design integrated but with the difference of having a static sound bar base which doesn’t transform or flip. The E7 is the follow up to 2016’s OLED65E6.
The main specifications are:
OLED65E7 (high price)
OLED55E7 (low price)
4K HDR OLED

LG OLED55C7V
The C7 is the follow-up to its predecessor model- the C6, and differs from the previous model as the latest version is not curved. LG has scrapped its curved screens line, resulting in the C7 being flat. One can say that the only curve that can be found on this model is the slightly protruding outwards bezel, black in color, so that the focus is entirely on the picture.
The main specifications are:
OLED65C7 (high price)
OLED55C7 (low price)
Slim design
4K HDR OLED
10-bit colour processing. 10-bit panel

LG OLED55B7V
Although the retail price is the same as the C7, the LG B7 is an entry level television. The design is a bit amped up as compared to C70 with silver trimmings rather than black and an arc stand.
The main specifications are:
OLED65B7 (high price)
OLED55B7 (low price)
Slim design
10-bit colour processing. 10-bit panel
4K HDR OLED
WebOS 3.5

LG ‘SUPER UHD TV 4K’ MODELS.
LG is proud of its OLED technology, but is always quick to point out that it has a lot more to offer than just that- it gives a lot of attention to LED LCD televisions as well. If a gigantic TV is what you seek, then this is the route to take as the sizes are expansive and hike up to 86 inches.
The LED LCD market is saturated and the competition is fierce. LG aims to set itself apart from the rest by utilizing ‘Nano Cell’ technology- which rivals Samsung’s quantum dot system. According to LG, the consistent 1nm dimensions of its nano cells mean that more accurate colors and darker blacks are achievable, along with improved viewing angles.
LG also doesn’t want its buyers to think that the LED LCD models are a cheaper alternative to OLED or not as good. Even the model at the absolute base of the ‘entry-level’ category- the SJ810V, features a sound system by Harman Kardon. There is also the SJ850V, which takes it a step higher with its frameless panel design, which is a technique to make the LED LCD look aesthetically more like the OLED designs.

LG LCD ‘UHD TV 4K’ MODELS.
Despite the fact that these models don’t make use of nano cell technology, LG claims that they still fall in the category of HDR. The UJ635V, UJ634V and UJ630V all feature LG’s Active HDR, which adds dynamic metadata to HDR10 sources, with or without Dolby Vision.
The UJ701V, UJ670V and UJ650V are similar, with the exception of the brightness which is kicked up a notch and named ‘Ultra-Luminance’ by LG.
LG ‘FHD TV’ MODELS – 1080P LCD
Not everyone desires to buy a 4K TV, so LG caters to the demand of this segment of buyers by producing HD TV models with only the basics.
The LJ594V, LJ614V and LJ624V all have WebOS3.5 integrated as an interface. For those of you who want an absolute no-nonsense basic set, can opt for either the LJ510B or the LJ515V, which are completely free of any smart functions.
