Shadis are stressful affairs. Let’s be honest, amongst all that ‘hulla-gulla’, dance practices, mehendis and dholkis, there’s lots of drama, complaining, last minute screw ups and a realization that the bride is leaving her childhood home to go to a completely new home amongst virtual strangers and that kind of thing can take its toll on anyone. In such conditions, it is not uncommon for the bride to be in constant stress and fall victim to the flu or cold. Although more importance is given to the physical appearance around wedding time, with dieting and detox becoming religion, it is extremely important to keep yourself healthy from the inside. Nobody wants to start a new life riddled with a cold and headaches. Given below are a few tips and tricks that can help brides-to-be hit some breaks, take a breather and enjoy their own wedding.

Don’t Starve Yourselves

I know it is very important to look your best on your big day. Nobody wants to be stuffed in their dress like a chicken when they are the center of attention with literally everyone snapping pictures of you. It should be noted, however, that times are changing. Where once upon a time size zero was, what we call nowadays, #goals, it is now viewed with concern. I do believe that eating healthy or eliminating certain foods like high-calorie foods and carbs, is important. This not only makes you active, less lethargic and gets rid of your body’s toxins, it also helps you cut down on all the unnecessary fat. Revert to a diet full of vegetables and fruits and try to keep a balanced diet.

Calm Your Mind

Fittings, sorting out the mess your darzi is bound to make, entertaining guests and posing for hours on end can be very tedious. In such times, it is difficult to forget that weddings are supposed to be enjoyable. Some things are bound to screw up, family drama will happen no matter how much you try to avoid it and thing will not always go your way so just relax and learn to let go. My opinion will be to join a yoga class or start morning walks. This will not only help you get into shape, but also give a very much needed breath of fresh air.

Do Not Get Carried Away in all the Festivities

It is important to remember that you’re the dulhan and you need your beauty sleep more than anyone. Restless or irregular sleep cycles can result in puffy face, dark circles, breakouts, digestive problems and general grogginess. So, please have some self control. Remember, there’s always someone else’s shadi for you to go completely crazy.

Get Checkups from Your Gynecologist

I’m not going to talk about the birds and the bees with you guys. We will, however, talk about something that is equally tabooed in our society- reproductive health. Assuming most brides haven’t had a proper gyne checkup, it is extremely important to talk to take care of yourself in that regard. Talk to your spouse about whether or not they will be using birth control, and if yes, what kind. Don’t be shy. Your health should be your first priority.

Give Up on Harmful Chemicals for Your Face

This is not just for the wedding. You should resort to natural, more organic products for facials, etc. Using bleaching creams or oxidizing creams can be extremely harmful and will not give you that bridal glow. They may even cause burns, redness or breakouts. Make sure you consult a specialist before you use any product prior to your shadi day.
