Kill Strike Trigger
by   llethe

Rumlow actually smiles and crackles “our puppet, like you,” his
voice so quiet and the words so distorted that Barnes just barely makes
them out.  He tells himself that they’re just words, and they’re just
words designed to elicit an emotional response.  It’s been just two
months; there’s nothing HYDRA could have done by now, to make those
words true.  Right?

A story of how far three people will go to
bring Steve Rogers home – and of how far HYDRA will go to bring home
their Winter Soldier.

Dead Man Running
by  onethingconstant

A ghost stands in the Smithsonian, staring at his face behind glass.
The sign says he’s dead. The WORLD says he’s dead. But as James Buchanan
Barnes—Bucky, sometimes the Winter Soldier—pieces together his
fragmented psyche, he begins to wonder. If he’s not dead, what is he? A
murderous ghost? A lost hero? A broken weapon? Something more—or
something much less?

On the run from Hydra and haunted by his
shattered memories, Bucky must choose between his will to survive and
his love for a friend he can barely remember. And as he fights for his
life against rogue terror cells, well-meaning superheroes, and his own
programming, he must determine once and for all whether he can once
again become what he most wants to be—

Human.

He tells his story in his own words.

He has this dream. He is not supposed to be dreaming, but he dreams all the same.

Or: Bucky Barnes really isn’t having a great year.

A gap-filler for Captain America: Civil War. What happened when Steve
and Bucky made it outside the bunker and found T'Challa waiting?  Now an
ongoing story!

Flicker
by  Cinderstrato

Bucky Barnes knows how to live off the grid. For someone who’s spent a
solid half-century being a shadow, it’s almost too easy. Unfortunately,
he’s on the run with a man who’s never turned tail before in the course
of his entire stubborn life.

The war’s over, and they’ve all lost.

In which Bucky has a house, a dog, an herb garden, and a serious case of
insomnia.  Welcome to Havensport, Indiana (population 8,294), where
Tom’s Neighborhood Grocer stays open all night, little old ladies call
the car shop to get their refrigerators repaired, and the heat of summer
days and the length of summer nights can make you think that this
perfect world will last forever.

Never Talk to Strangers

Never Talk to Strangers: or; How a Forgotten Childhood Lesson Led Bucky
Barnes to Appreciate Charlie Chaplin, Befriend an A.I., Slip on Soap
Bubbles, Be Mistaken for a Succubus, and Try to Woo a Superhero.

Rhapsody in Red

(BuckyNat in progress)

He had to come out of cryo sleep at some point.
She’d wanted him to,
of course she had, but she almost changed her mind when he finally did.
It was easier missing someone who wasn’t there. It hurt too much to miss
someone who was.

The Ghosts Of Who I Used To Be
by  Brenda

“I just want you to know,” Steve said, staring at the
ceiling, the dark giving him the strength to say the words he hadn’t
been able to earlier, “that I’m not – this isn’t about saving you or
recreating the past or anything like that. I know things are different. I
know we can never go back. The people we both were…they died a long
time ago.”

Steve thought once he found Bucky again, the
hard part would be over. But the real journey back to each other was
only just beginning. They each had a path to take - a path of redemption
and self-discovery, a path of self-destruction and revenge.  Along the
way, they rediscover each other: as family, as friends, and something
new.  And they learn that this new chance at life isn’t really about
starting over; it’s about moving on.

Such Great Siege
by
eyres

In the aftermath of defying his country to save his best
friend, Steve Rogers agreed to a plea bargain that would grant his
friends immunity but send him to prison. That was two years ago.

Bucky
had a plan for when Steve finally was released from prison: a quiet
house and a big bed, maybe a dog. None of his plans included Steve
agreeing to sacrifice himself to save the very people that had stripped
him of his title and took away his freedom. But old enemies have a way
of coming back.

In which Natasha is something of an Iron Woobie, Bucky is human and
needs to be loved, just like everybody else does, and there’s a lot of
Melodramatic Feelings.

Don’t Wait Up for Me

(Bucky & Sam friendship fic)

“This was the last place where I knew who Bucky Barnes was. No matter
how many times they stuffed the Soldier inside me, or tried to rip the
old Bucky out, a little bit of him still hung on inside, you know? I
just need to see that place where it all changed.”

A Matter of Circumstances

“If you want information on who you are, just go to Steve. Believe me, it would be his pleasu - oomph,” she cuts off with a grunt as she’s hauled to her feet and slammed into a tree.

“Not him,” he whispers harsh in her face. “I’ve been to the museum, I know about his… his Bucky. The friend, the fallen, the hero. I want what came after.”

She studies him a moment, unconcerned with the forearm pressing
against her sternum. “Not a pleasant road you’re looking to travel.”

“Wasn’t really counting on a happy ending, sweetheart.”

Wow, thank you so much for the rec!!!! <33333
