What’s It All About?
Established in 1947, the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is known for discovering and promoting the very best in international cinema and for heralding and debating changes in global filmmaking. EIFF is supported by Creative Scotland, the City of Edinburgh Council, Event Scotland, the Scottish Government through the Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund, and the BFI. It has developed into a crucial business hub for the UK and international film industry. With an emphasis on new talent, discovery and innovation, EIFF’s vibrant programme of films and events combines a commitment to audience edification and pleasure with a strong ongoing stake in the development of the UK and Scottish film industries.
This year, EIFF will showcase 156 features from 47 countries, including 11 world premieres, eight international premieres, and a range of special screenings and events. The festival strands include classic strands from Animation to Shorts to the Director’s Showcase, as well as new additions like Films on Film, Wicked and Wild, and a new take on Teen Spirit from the EIFF Young Programmers team.
