DENVER, CO – A delegation of experts from The Israel Public Diplomacy Forum (IPD Forum) will present a series of discussions in Denver on Thursday, November 5. Topics will cover Middle Eastern and foreign policy affairs, global terrorism, business, and innovation.
“The rapid developments in the Middle East are so confusing that it is difficult to understand who is fighting whom, and why,” says Dr. Eytan Gilboa, Chair and Academic Director of IPD Forum. “We are bringing this delegation to the US in an effort to clarify and explain events in Israel and the region, and place them in historical and strategic contexts”
Gilboa says there will be several events, each offering specific discussions around key issues, including the civil wars in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen; the refugee crisis in Europe; the Iran nuclear deal; Russia’s military intervention in Syria; and Palestinian–Israeli relations. Other topics will focus on business entrepreneurship.
The delegation’s stop in Denver is part of a 10-day series in the Southwest that includes programs in New Mexico (Santa Fe and Albuquerque), Arizona (Phoenix and Tucson), and Colorado (Denver).

Dr. Eytan Gilboa is the Chair and Academic Director of IPD Forum. He is Professor of Political Science and Communication at Bar-Ilan University, Visiting Professor of Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California, and Chair of the Israel Communication Association. He is a renowned expert on international communication, public diplomacy and US policy in the Middle East. He received his PhD and MA degrees from Harvard and has been a visiting professor at leading American and European universities. He served as a consultant to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs. An award-winning author, his most recent book is US-Israel Relations in a New Era: Issues and Challenges after 9/11. Dr. Gilboa contributes op-ed articles to Israeli and international newspapers, and serves as a commentator on both television and radio networks.
Dr. Ely Karmon is Senior Research Scholar at The International Institute for Counter Terrorism (ICT) and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Policy and Strategy at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, Israel. His fields of research include political violence, international terrorism, and the strategic influence of terrorism and subversion in the Middle East and worldwide. He has written extensively on global terrorism ands a frequent commentator on Middle Eastern and Terrorism issues in the Israeli and foreign media.
Dr. Miriam Haran is Head of the MBA Environmental Management Program at the Ono Academic College in Israel. A specialist in environmental management, she serves on the boards of Israel Chemicals Ltd.-Israel’s largest chemical company, and M.A.I – a major Israeli recycling company of electrical and electronic equipment waste (WEEE). She has advised corporations and government committees, and led research and environmental projects dealing with water and energy. Between 2003-2006 she served as Director General of the Ministry of Environment.
Mr. Leonard Sackstein is a well-known entrepreneur in Israel He is the Founder and Chairman of Carmit Candy Industries LTD., a leading Israeli manufacturer of confectionery products traded on the Tel Aviv Stock exchange. Mr. Sackstein is also founder and owner of Lagova Properties Ltd. This company develops and manages an extensive portfolio of commercial, office and industrial property in Israel. He earned his Commerce and LLB degrees at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
