Denver, CO – During the first and second quarters of 2014, Rose Community Foundation awarded 335 grants totaling more than $4.4 million. Of this amount, $3,195,966 was awarded for 137 grants from Rose Community Foundation’s program areas to nonprofit organizations, government agencies and projects that support the health and well-being of the Greater Denver community. Donor-advised funds housed at the Foundation approved 197 grants totaling $1,283,573. Rose Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling nearly $215 million since its inception in 1995.

The Foundation’s board of trustees authorized the following grants between January 1, 2014 and June 30, 2014. Program grants are listed by program area and donor-directed grants are listed alphabetically. Locations indicate the organization’s headquarters, not necessarily the geographic area served.

PROGRAM AREA GRANTS

Jewish Life

Bend the Arc (New York, NY): $25,000 to help create a Denver/Boulder Bend the Arc chapter of Jewish people advocating for social justice.

Ekar Farm (Denver): $60,000 to support Jewish experiential, educational programs at a community farm.

The Jewish Experience (Denver): $90,000 for new staff to help establish a teen engagement program.

The Jewish Federations of North America (New York, NY): $2,000 to support leadership activities.

Jewish Funders Network (New York, NY): $2,500 to support the activities of this national association that promotes thoughtful philanthropy among Jewish funders.

Kabbalah Experience (Denver): $24,500 to support a brand audit and communications strategy to attract new students.

Ramah Outdoor Adventure (Denver): $125,000 for expansion of this outdoor adventure residential Jewish camp in Jefferson County.

Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center (Denver): $250,000 to support facility improvements at the JCC Ranch Camp, a residential summer camp in Elbert county.

Rose Community Foundation (Denver): $1,043,255 to provide matching grant dollars to support the Jewish Teen Education and Engagement Initiative.

Aging

Boulder County CareConnect (Boulder): $20,000 to support independent living for older adults living in Boulder County through its Carry-Out Caravan, Fix-it Program and Medical Mobility Program.

Castle Rock Senior Center (Castle Rock): $10,000 to provide transportation services to support independent living for low-income older adults in Douglas County.

Catholic Health Initiatives Colorado Foundation (Colorado Springs): $100,000 to support the Centura Health LINKS program, which informs, counsels and assists older adults with access to and application for public benefits.

The Center for People with Disabilities (Denver): $7,500 to assist older adults who are visually impaired or blind to remain independent.

Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, Inc. (Denver): $8,000 to print an updated Senior Law Handbook to be distributed at Colorado’s 16th Annual Senior Law Day.

The Denver Center for Crime Victims (Denver): $10,000 to provide crisis intervention, case management and preventive home safety assessments for older adults.

Grantmakers in Aging (Arlington, VA): $3,500 to support the activities of this national association that focuses on aging issues.

Neighbor Network (Denver): $15,000 to provide transportation and in-home services to support the independent living of isolated older adults in Douglas County. Colorado Nonprofit Development Center serves as fiscal sponsor.

St. Francis Center (Denver): $11,000 for case management and transitional housing for homeless older adults.

TLC Meals on Wheels (Centennial): $15,000 over two years to provide home-delivered meals to homebound older adults in Denver’s south metro area.

Via Mobility Services (Boulder): $120,000 for paratransit services and mobility programs in Boulder and surrounding areas so older adults may remain independent in their own communities.

Child and Family Development

9to5 Colorado (Denver): $10,000 for leadership development and civic engagement of low-income women and their families.

Accion New Mexico ∙ Arizona ∙ Colorado (Albuquerque, NM): $10,000 to support a small business lending and financial education program in the Metro Denver area.

Bayaud Enterprises (Denver): $50,000 to train individuals as employees in a technology support call center service utilized by federal agencies.

Clayton Early Learning (Denver): $7,500 to bring the Birth to Five Policy Alliance, a national organization that provides support and funding for early childhood policy work, to Colorado.

Colorado Center on Law and Policy (Denver): $25,000 toward a grant totaling $50,000 for the Family Economic Security Program, which provides research, education, advocacy and litigation on behalf of low-income Coloradans. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Health program area.

Community Action Development Corporation (Boulder): $10,000 to support the implementation of the Boulder County Circle Campaign, which focuses on three critical indicators: positive changes in family assets, amount of social services benefits received and monthly income.

Grantmakers for Children, Youth, and Families (Silver Spring, MD): $2,500 to engage funders across all sectors to continually improve their grantmaking on behalf of children, youth and families.

Hope Center (Denver): $20,000 to provide professional development and quality improvements for a center that provides high quality early childhood education services to low-income children in Northeast Denver.

Jefferson Center for Mental Health (Wheat Ridge): $15,000 for early intervention services that provide children ages 0-5 and their families with therapy and education services.

Mary Wickersham Consulting, Inc. (Longmont): $7,000 for consulting services to assist Rose Community Foundation and other early childhood funders to participate in the development of Pay for Success financing structures.

Mercy Housing Inc. (Denver): $20,000 to provide educational and constructive activities to adults and youth.

Mi Casa Resource Center (Denver): $30,000 to advance economic success for Latino families.

Mile High Montessori Early Learning Centers (Denver): $15,000 for a birth-to-age-three parent education program for low income families.

Rose Community Foundation (Denver):

$3,000 for consulting services to document the history of the early childhood movement in Denver, and write a concept paper for the next phase of work for the Office of Early Childhood.

$2,500 toward a grant totaling $5,000 for consulting support for facilitation of the early childhood mental health funders collaborative. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development and Education program areas.

TLC Learning Center (Longmont): $15,000 for professional development training for staff at an early learning center.

Worklife Partnership (Denver): $25,000 to support employers’ ability to retain valuable employees by leveraging community resources. Colorado Nonprofit Development Center serves as the fiscal sponsor.

Education

A+ Denver (Denver): $6,000 for the printing of a briefing printed in Spanish and English to bring awareness to the education prospects of children who attend public schools in Southwest Denver.

Adams County School District 50 (Westminster): $147,000 to provide district-wide, professional development focused on implementation of the Colorado academic standards/Common Core to create evidence-driven, competency-based classrooms.

America SCORES Denver (Denver): $2,500 to support a program that integrates poetry and soccer into after-school programming.

Bennie E. Goodwin After School Academic Program (Aurora): $5,000 for an after-school program helping low income students in need of academic assistance.

The Bridge Project, University of Denver (Denver): $15,000 to support an after-school program for children living in public housing neighborhoods.

City Year Denver (Denver): $5,000 for a program offering attendance coaching, behavior mentoring and academic tutoring for students in jeopardy of dropping out of school.

Colorado “I Have A Dream”® Foundation (Denver): $10,000 to support college and career readiness for middle and high school students.

Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists (Denver): $5,000 to provide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) tutoring for African-American and other undeserved youth.

Colorado Communities for Public Education Reform (Denver): $50,000 to support organizations advocating for education reform in the Denver Metro area and statewide. Rose Community Foundation serves as the fiscal sponsor.

Colorado UpLift (Denver): $5,000 to support a teacher/mentoring program providing after-school, adventure and post-secondary support to youth who need caring, adult support to succeed in life.

Denver Kids, Inc. (Denver): $12,000 for one-on-one social/emotional support and academic guidance to students in Denver Public Schools.

Denver Public Schools (Denver): $237,500 to support the next generation ProComp 3.0 development.

Denver Public Schools Foundation (Denver): $54,686 to sustain and improve the quality of extended learning opportunities at Grant Beacon Middle School.

Generation Schools Network (Denver): $45,000 to achieve more and better learning time for 1,800 students and 100 teachers at West Generation Academy and in Englewood Public Schools.

Girls Incorporated of Metro Denver (Denver): $4,000 for academic enrichment programs for girls.

Grantmakers for Education (Portland, OR): $20,000 for a member briefing featuring the Colorado Education Initiative.

Great Education Colorado (Denver): $12,500 to enhance education, outreach and coalition building focusing on the Colorado academic standards.

I Have a Dream® Foundation of Boulder County (Boulder):

$5,000 for a year-round program of mentoring, academic assistance, life-skills development, cultural enrichment for elementary school students.

Mapleton Public Schools (Denver): $50,000 to support a program where teachers share data with families and model how to support learning at home.

Mi Casa Resource Center (Denver): $12,000 to provide academic support, technology learning, career exploration, financial literacy and leadership, and family engagement programs for students at Lake Middle School.

OpenWorld Learning (Denver): $15,000 to support afterschool technology programs for 3rd-8th graders at Denver-area Title I schools.

Public Education & Business Coalition (Denver): $50,000 for the second year of the North Feeder System Project, which creates professional development at three Denver middle schools.

Regis University (Denver): $5,000 to support the Porter-Billups Leadership Academy.

Rose Community Foundation (Denver): $25,000 to support communication efforts around the re-design and re-negotiation of the ProComp program.

Save Our Youth (Denver): $5,000 to help middle and high school students prepare for college or a trade after graduation.

Stand for Children Colorado (Denver): $75,000 to advocate for continued implementation of the Colorado Academic Standards.

Summer Scholars (Denver): $7,500 for an after-school program providing academic support for students at least one grade level behind in school.

The YESS Institute (Denver): $5,000 to support mentoring at Lincoln, North and West high schools.

YouthBiz (Denver): $2,500 for a student entreprenuerial program that challenges students to build entrepreneurial skills and habits through business ownership.

Health

Colorado Center on Law and Policy (Denver): $25,000 towards a grant totaling $50,000 to support the Family Economic Security Program, which provides research, education, advocacy and litigation on behalf of low-income Coloradans. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development program area.

Grantmakers in Health (Washington, DC): $4,025 to support the activities of this national association of grantmakers dedicated to improving the nation’s health.

The Keystone Center (Keystone): $9,500 to assist Rose Community Foundation to develop a strategic plan around the issue of early childhood mental health.

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (Denver): $50,000 for new and ongoing community education and outreach programs aimed at reducing teen pregnancy rates.

Rose Community Foundation (Denver): $2,500 toward a grant totaling $5,000 for consulting support for facilitation of the early childhood mental health funders collaborative. This grant was jointly funded by the Foundation’s Child and Family Development and Education program areas.
