-- Powerful And Portable Chinese Phone Analysis System Tackles Latest Phones; and Acquires More Data --
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Oct. 2, 2012  /PRNewswire/ -- EDEC Digital Forensics, (www.edecdf.com), an innovator in the field of mobile forensics, has released a beta of its latest version of the company's Tarantula Chinese Cell Phone Analysis Tool. Tarantula 2.0 beta is a significant advance which affirms EDEC's position as the industry leader in Chinese phone forensics.
"In an industry where technology advances at the speed of light, it is our responsibility to provide investigators with the most advanced technology to address their needs," says Ryan Judy, Sales Manager for EDEC. "Tarantula 2.0 offers our customers vastly more capability in a, light, compact kit, and powered by USB making it highly portable."
Tarantula 2.0 is an update of both Tarantula's hardware and software, including a new compact tip kit and USB-powered hardware unit as well as vastly improved analysis software that provides full file system analysis, acquires PIN codes and multiple IMEI numbers, highlights deleted data, acquires media files; decodes Android MTK phones; and has excellent reporting features.
Tarantula is a field-ready analysis kit.  A new USB-powered hardware unit, lighter kit weight (2.5 pounds) and smaller profile (7.5" x 9" x 4") make it highly desirable for use in the field by law enforcement and the military.
"Mobile forensic investigations are frequently done outside a lab environment. Our customers have been asking for these improvements from us and Tarantula 2.0 delivers," comments Mr. Judy, "Law enforcement, military and civilian examiners are often in the field, under difficult conditions, working to perform forensics or acquire intelligence on problematic devices."
About Tarantula:
First introduced in October of 2011, Tarantula targets the problematic mobile devices based on Chinese manufactured chipsets, a rapidly expanding segment of mobile phones worldwide.  These devices have historically been off-brand phones or illegitimate phones - also known as "white-box," "clone-phones" or "Shanzhai" (Chinese)  and are characterized by the absence of normal industry standards, making them extremely difficult to analyze. Increasingly, Chinese chip sets have been adopted by major brand phones, including smart phones.
The Tarantula 2.0 system greatly simplifies and speeds up the analysis of these devices. Tarantula is the only forensic cell phone analysis system that supports physical extraction and decoding from all major Chinese manufactured chipsets — Mediatek, Spreadtrum, and Infineon, whether or not the phone is PIN-locked. Using full physical analysis, Tarantula 2.0 extracts and decodes low-level data including deleted data,  decodes the phone file system and presents data such as call logs, SMS, phone book, media files, passwords, and IMEIs.
Following an industry trend toward the use of Chinese chips in smart phones, Tarantula 2.0 is capable of analyzing Android phones with additional smartphone analysis in future software releases.
EDEC employs a research team in China dedicated to monitoring industry trends and targeting new chipsets and devices so that Tarantula stays current and relevant in a constantly changing industry landscape For more information about Tarantula, visit www.edecdf.com or contact EDEC at 805-962-3080
