SHREVEPORT, LA – Margaret (Peggy) Higgins LeGrand, 70, was born on March 22, 1946 in New Orleans, LA to William and Melba Higgins. While attending Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, she met her husband Al LeGrand. Peggy passed away on December 2nd following a lengthy battle with a rare form of Cancer.

Peggy had a unique zest for life. She was deeply rooted with the supporting sorority for St. Jude’s, ESA, serving for over 30 years in the Haughton chapter. Peggy held elective offices in ESA on both the local and state levels where she rarely missed a convention. Although a private person, she enjoyed socializing with her friends, playing cards, attending movies and spending time in Hot Springs, Arkansas. When she would reminisce about her hometown of New Orleans her delightful “New Orleans” accent would reappear. She loved any holiday, especially Christmas, where she spent time with family, cooking, decorating and listening to the music that enhanced the celebration. Peggy enjoyed dancing; watching her favorite TV programs, and listening to the New Orleans music she grew up to.

Peggy was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she rarely missed going.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 51 years Al LeGrand; son, Gregory LeGrand and wife Cindy of Shreveport, LA; daughter, Leah Purser and husband Donnie of Miami, Florida; and 4 grandchildren, Mallory LeGrand, Nicholas LeGrand, Logan Purser and Megan Purser; 6 great grandchildren; and her brother, Daniel Higgins.

A celebration of her life will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton on Monday, December 5th at 11:00 am., with a brief visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends who were able to be there as she enjoyed life. The family would like to thank the staff of University Health and Willis-Knighton Medical Center. A special thank-you to Prakash Peddi, MD.MS. and her sitters, Tracy, Andrea and Yolanda as well as Reverend Charles Glorioso.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
