Almost everyone has heard the expression “A picture is worth a thousand words,” so it is not surprising that professional photographers are expert storytellers. Actually, with cell phone cameras we are all pretty good storytellers.
As an amateur photographer I look for ways to improve the quality of my photos. “Set the Scene: Use Props to Create Memorable Portrait Photography” by Tracy Dorr is a new book at the library with great ideas on how to set up theme related photos and destination photo shoots.
The awe-inspiring pictures of babies and children by photographer Anne Geddes grab our hearts. “Mamarazzi: Every Mom’s Guide to Photographing Kids” by Stacy Wasmuth gives helpful tips on how to create similar settings for your picture taking sessions.
The library has a large collection of books on photography. Stop by and pick out a few that will be helpful when you are ready to tell the stories of your summer vacations, birthday celebrations, and other memorable moments.

Friends of BPL are hosting “The Splendor of a Summer Garden” on Saturday, April 18 from 1:30—4:00p.m., in the History Center meeting room with guest speaker Tony Thornton, Manager of Ellis Pottery Home & Garden in Bossier City. Attendees will receive a flowering plant to take home and can enter a raffle for a prize.
