Bossier High School is celebrating its centennial year.The Bossier Bearkats and Bossier High School Alumni Association united for a ribbon cutting celebration Friday, Sept. 16.
Among those attending were Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker, Bossier Schools Superintendent Scott Smith, Carolyn Grimsley, BHSAA president, as well as 2017 senior class representatives from the 100th graduating class at Bossier High.
There will be several events held throughout the centennial celebration. The search is also on to find the oldest living Bossier High graduate.
The BHSAA centennial sports and spirit hall of fame is slated for Oct. 15 in the Bossier High School auditorium. Chairman Don Weathersby says to be in your seats early…the march-in of champions begins at 2 p.m. A reception with refreshments will follow the program.
This year’s honorees are Sue Williams Cobb, Coach “T. Willie” Hutchins, Tommy Bond, Coach Shannon Rahm, Coach Milford Andrews, Coach John Thompson, Dr. Cherie Ward Tines, Coach Dick Concilio, and Coach Jeremiah Williams.
Tickets are $10 for adults. Students and children are admitted free.
Weathersby said, “this will be the best production yet. It will be the best sports ticket in town! The BHSAA Sports and Spirit Hall of Fame conveys to students and the extensive breadth of Bossier High’s 100 years of sports history. It speaks importantly to the ‘undaunted spirit’ of the youth and adults passing through.”
He continued, “this year’s event will provide vignettes from 1946 to the present – 80 years of BHS sports in two hours or less!”
The BHSAA was formed in 2005 and began its first Sports and Spirit Hall of Fame in 2007. Exceptional individuals and teams are honored, including nearly 300 students, coaches and organizations since the beginning.
A display of Bossier High history will be on public display at the Bossier History Center beginning in January 2017. What is needed — BHSAA has collected yearbooks, but would like a football, band, or other uniforms, report cards, books, posters, photos showing life of teens in Bossier.

The Bearkats big centennial event will be held in May 2017. That’s when all active Bossier High School classes are summoned home for the centennial roll call.
As you can see, Bossier High School is still going strong 100 years later in Bossier City.
