It's been a long week with fog, bad behavior, and a battle to win. With the weather fluctuating between summer temps and the push of fall, the mornings have been so foggy that I just keep saying "brains" in a zombie voice as I drive the country kids to school. LOL
The oldest country kid is struggling with the start of school. He isn't doing well with getting to class on time and turning in things *sigh* Not to mention at home he losses his mind when we call him on it. I hate to see the teenage years if this is a preview.
But on a better note, we battled all week long in the Purina Poultry Miss Flock-tober event to get Baby Girl one of the four spots in the final. It was close and I know October 2nd is going to be our biggest battle yet to win the title!
So what made me smile this week?
Well a couple of someones are eager for breakfast! Mr Bill and Betty were all over me. Back up, geez! Pushy ducks....
Wake up you rumpless wonder, it's time to start the day! Poor, poor Ester.... When she molts, she does it H-A-R-D. I feel so bad for her. I'll be glad when her tail grows back cause she is getting kinda hard to look at LOL
Back in the Spring of 2015 we hatched some eggs a friend gave us. One was a cute little yellow chick.... yeah, I was smitten. But then it turned out to be a rooster. *pout* Sadly I sent Bruce to live with a friend. He is a funny looking guy, with his frizzled feathers. He was the lowest ranking roo at her place. Poor Bruce didn't get the attention from the women folk, or so we thought. Fast forward to this spring and my friend had a surprise hatch. The chicks are getting older and it would appear the ladies DO like Bruce, A LOT! In the second photo check out how many of the chicks have frizzled feathers! You go Bruce!!! Sneaking under the radar, making little baby Bruces.
Even in the bathroom, I'm never alone. Seriously need to move him out of here.... Stop looking at me, man!
What?!?! This doesn't happen at your house!?!?! Never a dull moment....
It's been a wee bit foggy this week.... just a tad.....
My hubby is a knitting fool! He made this pot holder and now he is working on a hat. Oh and I have to get you all a photo of the beautiful scarf he just finished making for little old me. It is fancy! I'm a lucky
Cinder and Fifi wanted to wish you all sweet dreams from the shelf in the shed (where they should NOT be roosting, but what am I gonna do?!? It's not like I can reach em LOL)
It was homecoming for our boys' school system. We had a nice time at the parade. Love small town pride!
Let Lily out to free range with the flock this mornings. With the fall colors
starting, she is getting even harder to spot in the bushes!
Our duck Baby Girl entered the Purina Miss Flock-tober fest contest
It has been brought to my attention (a few different ways) that some folks don't think Baby Girl should be part of the Purina Miss Flock-tober contest because she is a duck and this contest is for poultry. *smacks forehead* News flash: Ducks ARE poultry! I had one person comment "Isn't this water fowl" in reference to Baby Girls photo. *sigh* Trust me, I contacted Purina and asked them BEFORE entering her, if she was eligible to enter and was told yes. The requirement for competing is "Entry must feature an egg-laying age female bird." Bird, not poultry, though I am sure your parakeet doesn't want a year supply of chicken food. That being said, Baby Girl does eat chicken feed along with the rest of our flocks (ducks and chickens living in harmony together.) So I decided that win, lose, or draw on this contest, I am going to start a movement to educate folks that ducks are poultry too! Along with turkeys, geese, blah, blah, blah...... Seriously, go check the Oxford Dictionary definition!
Winner, winner, ducky dinner!?!? Baby Girl won this weeks contest and will be in the running for the ultimate crown of Miss Flock-tober 2017!
Our duck is a star!!!!!
Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!
