Yukigassen Snow Battle
Also known as the Japanese Snow Battle, Yukigassen is a team sport created in Japan that has now spread around the world and now, the first ever Yukigassen event in BC will also be fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society. It’s an epic 3 period snow battle, where teams try to hit their opponents with snowballs or capture their flag.
The Fox Cabaret Open House
The Fox is set to reopen its doors this weekend on February 28 & March 1, after undergoing a year long transformation from porn theatre to arts and culture cabaret. Check out the soft open house celebration with DJs, live performance, visuals, and more. 9pm-1am at 2321 Main Street. $10 for entry.
25th Annual Festival du Bois
The largest francophone festival on Canada’s West Coast commemorates the Festival’s first quarter century with great music, amazing artists, outstanding performers, entertaining activities and authentic food. This year’s programming reflects it all and the festival is pleased to present an eclectic gathering of the finest Québécois, francophone, folk, world and roots artists performing today. VanDolls at the Movies Burlesque Show
The night before the actual Oscars, the VanDolls Burlesque Troupe will be taking over The Legion on Commercial Drive to celebrate over 70 years of award-winning movies with dozens of performances based on films that include Titanic, and Black Swan. The VanDolls are known for their thematic shows and with a red carpet entrance, ‘paparazzi’ and popcorn The VanDolls at The Movies is aimed to give audiences an immersive experience.
Tarantino Burlesque
Tarantino Burlesque is a live-music burlesque show featuring music from Tarantino movie soundtracks and burlesque inspired by the movies — from Pulp Fiction to Death Proof, get ready to be enthralled! This is a gritty and high-energy production featuring some of Vancouver’s best performers. The show will be hosted by Fairlith Harvey of Geekender’s fame. Only 40 tickets will be available at the door at 8pm.
Raincity Oscar Party
Experience the Academy Awards on the big screen in the comfort of the most luxurious movie theatre in town. This red carpet party includes a welcome cocktail, hors d’oeuvres, an Oscar pool, prizes, tunes from a DJ, and a celebrity host. VIFF will be putting their own Raincity spin on Hollywood’s big night, so expect surprises, laughs, and a bigger splash! 3:30pm at Vancity Theatre, Downtown. $35
Live Oscars Part at the Rio Theatre
Broadcasting the 86th annual academy awards. Party starts at 5:30, red carpet gala starts at 4pm. Free admission and full bar service with contests that include Oscar trivia, best costume, best acceptance speech, and more.
