Dubmood has just released the first single, “Ma Version”, from their upcoming album Machine, due Fall 2013 on the independent chipmusic label Data Airlines. With the single comes an animated video teaser by demoscene hero Bob Nimbe, a B-side and two remixes. Both the music and visuals confirm the dark and vintage-futuristic turn that the group has taken since their start over a decade ago. This is cold 8-bit blended with warm analogue synths, groovy live drums and anxious French vocals. Breathing life into a genre hampered by cliché video game references and candy-coated melodies, Dubmood’s music instead chooses to pay homage to the darker synthpop of Kraftwerk and dance punk of LCD Soundsystem.
