Christine Amsden has been writing science fiction and fantasy for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.
At the age of 16, Christine was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Disease, a condition that effects the retina and causes a loss of central vision. She is now legally blind, but has not let this slow her down or get in the way of her dreams. (You can learn more here.)
In addition to writing, Christine teaches workshops on writing at Savvy Authors. She also does some freelance editing work.
Christine currently lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, Austin, who has been her biggest fan and the key to her success. They have two beautiful children, Drake and Celeste.

1. There will be four books total – and they are all finished! Secrets and Lies will be available November 15, 2013. Mind Games is tentatively scheduled for April 15, 2014, and Dreamer will be out in the fall of 2014. (I don’t know about you but the first thing I want to know when I read a book that is clearly the beginning of a series is: What’s next and when’s it coming? Well, there it is as plain as I can make it. :) )
2. The books in this series do NOT stand alone. Though a mystery frames each book, providing some sense of resolution if not exactly closure, Cassie’s story continues through all four books.
3. There is an audiobook version of Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective available. I plan to have the entire series recorded, hopefully with the same engaging voice actress. Each one will be out a few months after the ebook/print release.
4. The story is meant to be fun. But if you’re so inclined, there are also some deeper meanings and themes. Self-acceptance is huge. Heroism in all its myriad forms is there as well, along with the purpose of forgiveness and the meaning of love.
5. I wrote this book for adults. Many bloggers are calling it YA, and I can see why. There are some elements to the story that would definitely appeal to a younger audience, and I don't want to discourage that. But I want to make it clear that it wasn't my intention to write a young adult book, and that there are some definite PG 13 moments. This series is not appropriate for middle schoolers.
6. Two of Cassie's friends – Madison and Kaitlin – have spin-offs planned. (They got a bit big to be footnotes in Cassie's story.)
7. Cassie does not have magic. She's not repressed.
8. The vampires in my series do not sparkle. Think Bram Stoker.
9. Cassie is the oldest of seven children.
10. Evan Blackwood is extremely powerful, and feels very protectively towards Cassie.
