Region Your Book Covers: Yates County and the Finger Lakes region of New York
What Inspired You to Write History Books?
I taught American History for thirty-four years at Oneida High School in Oneida, New York. In retirement I became active in the Yates County History Center in Penn Yan and shifted my focus to local history. I have written nearly one hundred articles for our bimonthly publication, Yates Past, over the last ten years.
What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
One has to enjoy doing the research. With me, it’s one of the few activities where I lose total track of time.
Writing About US History Must Be Difficult, How Do You Do Your Reseach?
The Yates County History Center has terrific resources. I use their files plus old issues of the local newspapers. When appropriate, I like to interview people connected to my topic.
