Dina and Mark Marshall, a nouveau riche couple in their thirties, live at Boca Forest, the top country club in Boca Raton, Florida, where they vie to keep up with wealthier residents. Mark, a financial planner and popular golf partner, regularly invites club members to partake in Dina’s gourmet dinners in an attempt to further his business that affords them a luxurious Florida lifestyle. When Mark suddenly leaves his wife for the hot, younger blonde Taffie and the two take off for Key West, Dina finds little solace in her family and “friendships”—instead, she trumps her initial self-doubt and turns her obsessive list-making tendency into a flourishing home-catering business. While intent on keeping her head above water and winning back her husband, Dina encounters a dashing fellow chef and all-around great guy, Dex Ryder. Now everyone’s talking, and not just about her fantastic cuisine. Dina’s life is definitely on the upswing…until it all comes crashing down. Laugh, cry and cook with Dina as she discovers who her true friends are and decides where and with whom her future lies.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?

I’ve added a personal touch with my dialogue because I am able to get into my characters’ minds and actually speak aloud their parts as I’m typing. My genre is contemporary fiction/romance or chick-lit. I added a couple of scenes in real time, which many people commented on in their reviews. They related to the protagonist’s distress while laughing at the events that befall her.

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?

Begin with something small – maybe an essay or short story. Read books in the genre you’re interested in becoming a part of. Subscribe to a writer’s magazine. Join a critique group. Go to a few writers’ workshops – many of which are free.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?

I worked for a high end caterer in Boca Raton, which serviced wealthy residents of country clubs in the area. I’ve always had an interest in food and come from a famiily of good cooks. My job as a party planner led me into some of the most unusual situations, which I mentally filed away until I wrote this book.I added romance, humor and lots of food for a book that will be familiar to many woman who have to make a living, particularly if they are single. My book has won the 2013 IPPY Bronze Award, and was one of three award finalists in the International Book Awards for 2013.
