We like glitter. We know we like bright colors and we like to show it off. So what ethnic Indian outfit brings all of this together in one plush package? The lehenga choli. The long skirt and blouse combination, though rarely referred to as such, has been around for generations and though it has undergone changes, the recognizable form of the lehenga choli has remained the same, unlike say, the salwar kameez which has evolved and metamorphosed into anarkalis, straight suits, patialas, we could go on.. The choli has been the most modified aspect of the lehenga choli to evolve into long cholis, jacket style cholis, and simple petite blouses, to name a few, while the lehenga has been just that, the one exception being fish cuts. The cholis even come in A-line styles that are widely regarded as elegant and ideal for wearing grand accessories like choker necklaces and jhumka earrings. And here’s some good new – Cbazaar has all these styles of lehenga cholis and more in terms of fabric, colors and styles. Check out cbazaar.com to find out what you like.

One of the most game-changing aspects of lehenga cholis are the motifs and patterns that are added to it. These can seriously play things up and decide where the outfit is to be worn. These motifs can be anything from jacquard patterns, butti work, zardosi enhancements, bead work, elaborate appliques to a single lonely applique with glittering stonework, trailing appliques applied to borders, appliques on dupattas, the list is endless. A lehenga choli with heavy embellishments and in red are considered bridal wedding lehengas. An equally grand outfit in other royal colors also make good wedding outfits for guests and other members of the wedding scene. A lehenga choli with fewer embellishments and more prints and zari work can be an elegant outfit for guests. Lehenga cholis are played up and stylized for every such occasion including Sangeets, engagements and parties.

A lehenga choli is best worn with high heels or simple ethnic footwear. Depending on the type of sleeves on the lehenga choli, the wearer can add bangles and kadas to their outfit. Grand and elaborate earrings go great with lehengas. Chose a necklace depending on the style of the choli’s neck – a wide neck or a close collared one can be paired with elaborate necklaces, like Sonam Kapoor or go simple like Kareena Kapoor in her long choli lehenga in pink.
