Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is a romantic drama film written and directed by Karan Johar. The film starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles. The film was first announced in November 2014. Writer-director Karan Johar said that for the past year and a half, he had been developing a story that he needed to work on for several months. However, while he was in New York, the idea for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil came to him and he wrote the screenplay in 30 days.

A story about unrequited love – the shapes it takes, the ways it changes us and the exhilarating and often heartbreaking ride it takes us on. It is the journey of three characters, Ayan, Alizeh and Saba, as their lives intertwine and they navigate life, love, and heartbreak. Still reeling from the effects of a recent breakup, a woman (Anushka Sharma) develops a budding romance with a man (Ranbir Kapoor) who loves to sing.
