From the 1960s, the Hindi Film industry achieved major commercial success more regularly, and the profit earned multiplied manifold; The 1975 movie ‘Sholay’ earned huge amount that the last record-holder  1960s movie Mughal-e-Azam earned, while 1994 came movie ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ more than quadrupled Sholay’s record.

At the beginning, the success of a movie was determined by box office longevity than profit. However, due to growing competition from television and the threat of copying, and later the advent of alternative media, longevity of movies decreased acutely and profit became the focus of success.

And on the overseas front, the Film has earned Rs 156 crores gross, that takes its Worldwide Box office collection Rs 626 crores. The movie stars Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in the title role, with Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in supporting roles.

2. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s movie ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ beats ‘Happy New Year’ and ‘3 Idiots’ lifetime earnings. The movie has become the first Bollywood movie of 2015 to cross Rs 300 crores with its net collection at the domestic box office. The film took just 9 days to earn Rs 200 crores from its domestic box office run. It is the third fastest movie after ‘PK’ and ‘Dhoom 3’ to earn Rs 200 crores in just nine days.

3. Dhoom 3: Back In Action (2013)

Bollywood stars Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer movie Dhoom 3 is breaking all records in India and overseas. The movie beat the INR3.95 billion (US$60 million) record set by movie Chennai Express according to Box Office India.

4. Chennai Express (2013)

Chennai Express is a 2013 Indian romantic action-comedy movie directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Gauri Khan under the SRK banner Red Chillies Entertainment. The movie stars Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. The movie currently the highest-grossing Bollywood movie of 2013. The movie broke the record held by movie 3 Idiots (2009) in the domestic box office and was declared a Blockbuster in India by Box Office collection. It is also the third highest-grossing Bollywood movie in overseas collection. Chennai Express went on to become the highest-grossing Bollywood movie worldwide.

5. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015)

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo stars with Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor, directed and produced by Sooraj Barjatya. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has become the highest opening movie of 2015.

6. 3 Idiots (2009)

Since the year 2013, the movie was at top the list of highest grossing Bollywood movies box office collection worldwide. The record was first broken by movie Chennai Express than movie Dhoom 3 and than movie PK. Now movie 3 Idiots is at number 5 in the list with worldwide gross INR Rs 395 crores (US$60 million). It is a 2009 Indian comedy-drama movie directed by Rajkumar Hirani, with a screenplay by Abhijat Joshi, and the movie is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

7. Happy New Year (2014)

Directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan, movie Happy New Year had a bumper opening on the first day setting a new record by earning around INR450 million (US$7.3 million) nett, making it the first Bollywood movie to reach the figure for a single day. The movie released on Diwali, 24 October 2014, in three languages: Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Happy New Year became the 6th Highest grossing Bollywood movies box office collections worldwide and collected around Rs 383 crores.

8. Kick (2014)

Salman Khan starrer Kick has been highly awaited movie in that year. The film has been collected awesome performance at the worldwide box office collection in his 1st week and 2nd weekend journey. Kick movie has collected a total of Rs 390 crorers, Rs 68 crores of overseas box office collections and over Rs 322 crores of domestic box office collections. It will now be lagging behind just three movies – Dhoom 3, Chennai Express and 3 Idiots.

Superhero science fiction movie Krrish 3 became the 9th highest grossing Bollywood movie box office collection with worldwide gross INR 374 crores. The movie which released in 2013, is produced and directed by Rakesh Roshan.

10. Bang Bang (2013)

The 2014 Bollywood action thriller movie Bang Bang became the 10th highest grossing Bollywood movie. The movie is an official remake of the Hollywood movie Knight and Day and features Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles performed by Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz respectively in the original.
