Cattail silhouettes at sunrise

Start with meditation, and things will go on growing in you — silence, serenity, blissfulness, sensitivity.  And whatever comes out of meditation, try to bring it out in life.  Share it, because everything shared grows fast.

That’s the difficult part, the sharing.  How do you share what it feels like standing near the tallness of the cattails at dawn?  How do you share becoming mesmerized by the thinness of each blade, the sound of the rushes rustling in the soft morning breeze, the glow of light?

Thinness

That’s what my photography is about, I suppose.  Sharing the beauty of this place in a way I can’t do with words.  Even with the changes brought on by the drought, it’s beautiful.  There are still green spots to be found, near the pond and in the woods.

Willow wisps

I started today with another early morning walk, meditation, and yoga practice.  It looked cloudy at first, and I thought (hoped) we might not see much of a sunrise.  The hope was for rain, of course.  But the rain stayed north, up near Detroit, for most of the day, the line of showers and storms breaking up as it crossed Lake Erie.  Rain and storms have popped up around us, but nothing here as of this writing (which was earlier in the afternoon, before the possibility of storms and power outages).

Sunrise in the woods

Karma left me a great idea in yesterday’s post about taking a long walk.  She suggested a group blog walk experience where we choose the mileage, a time frame of a few days, and then we all walk and blog about it.  It would be a lot like the WordPress 5k.  How about it?  Anyone up for a long walk?  Or a short walk?  Or something in between?  Several people have expressed an interest in a long walk so I think this might work.  We’ll have to work out the details, but that shouldn’t be too difficult.  I’m all for waiting until the fall when the weather is more agreeable.  That will give us plenty of time to figure out mileage, dates, etc.

The woods are still dark and deep…

I’m still walking about 5 miles a day most days.  Tomorrow I’m going to take my early morning walk at a nearby park for the change in scenery.

The creek is so low you could easily walk across as long as you don’t mind getting your feet (and maybe your ankles) wet.

Meditation is just a courage to be silent and alone.  Slowly slowly, you start feeling a new quality to yourself, a new aliveness, a new beauty, a new intelligence — which is not borrowed from anybody, which is growing within you.  It has roots in your existence.

Alone in the woods at sunrise. (But not really alone. There were trees, flowers, birds, chipmunks, plenty of insects — hence the hat on my head which deters deer flies — and probably lots of other animals I didn’t see or hear.)

Well then, I guess that’s it from the Bogs for today.  Let me know about that group walk experience.  I think it will be fun, and I’d love being able to accompany you on one of your walks.

This morning’s view of the pond.

Meditation is a silent heart, a peaceful mind which can make life more lovable, more livable, which can make life richer in every dimension.  I don’t want you to renounce anything.  I want you to rejoice in everything, whatever you are doing.
