Title: Engineer II
Location: US-North Carolina-Research Triangle Park
Job Number: MEC1007O
GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the general direction of the Corporate CAE group, apply CAE simulation and optimization tools to evaluate and optimize the overall performance and quality of new or improved product designs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Apply Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation tools to impact product development through increased product quality, improved time to market, lowered product cost or proving out new technologies for new products.
* Evaluate part functionality through use of the Abaqus structural analysis code, fluid flow effectiveness through use of the ANSYS computational fluid dynamics packages, and part manufacturability through use of the Moldflow software code.
* Utilize CAE-based optimization, coupling CAE simulation tools with the HEEDS optimization software, to create optimal and robust product designs.
* Create customized software scripts and/or modify existing scripts to extend the functionality of CAE simulation tools or enable CAE-based product optimization.
* Work closely with Corporate CAE team members, as necessary, to gain knowledge in the effective application of FEA/CFD analyses and CAE-based optimization techniques to best assist product development teams.
* Develop and maintain an environment for constructive inter-relationships among Corporate CAE team members, with BD business unit teams and among various cross-functional disciplines. Work successfully in both individual and team situations.
* Review ongoing progress through effective verbal, web-based or written communication. Summarize findings and recommendations in formal technical reports.
* Actively utilize the CAE Projects database to update progress on ongoing jobs and prioritize internal BD requests. Review progress at weekly team meetings.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

· Minimum of a B.S. in an Engineering field (M.S.) preferred.
· Minimum of 6 months experience applying the finite element analysis (FEA) software and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software packages, preferably for medical device applications. Experience using the HEEDS optimization software and Moldflow injection molding analysis packages preferred.
· Knowledge in using three-dimensional CAD solid modeling software packages.
· Proven ability to work successfully in team and individual situations.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
