Reporting to the Senior Manager of R&D; for Worldwide Pharmacy Solutions within Medical Surgical Systems, a new opportunity exists in a newly acquired high growth business to lead an R&D; team and to develop and drive engineering excellence. The successful candidate will lead, develop, mentor, and train R&D; associates and teams and contribute to end-to-end product development. The principal responsibilities will be aligned to supporting a portfolio of complex disposable medical devices on a global scale to accelerate growth. As a technical leader and project team member, the incumbent will lead challenging technical projects and manage and develop technical associates within the R&D; organization. As a people leader, the Manager will help develop a high performing technical team to meet the needs of the current portfolio, current pipeline, and future portfolio.

BD Medical - Medical Surgical Systems is searching for a Manager, R&D; to lead and develop R&D; associates within the WW Pharmacy Solutions platform. As an R&D; Manager, the ideal candidate will be a passionate people leader, striving to build technical and product development excellence, align themselves to platform priorities, engage with external partners and customers, and lead design and development activities for a global portfolio of existing and new medical products. The successful candidate will help develop the engineering function, ensuring functional excellence and overall product development expertise while building organizational capabilities. The R&D; Manager will be responsible for identifying, breaking down, and solving deep technical problems, and will also contribute to searching for and synthesizing new product opportunities. As a leader within the R&D; organization, the successful candidate will interface regularly with customers, external partners, and internal stakeholders.

This important position requires the following qualifications:
**_Education_**
* B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related engineering degree required. An advanced degree in a complimentary engineering discipline or MBA is required. PhD is preferred.
**_Experience_**
* At least 10 years’ relevant experience in product development and design with at least 5 years product development and design experience in medical devices/products. Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience.
* Successful track record of identifying, recruiting, mentoring, managing, and developing talent.
* Demonstrated strength in talent acquisition and development, including deep technical experts
* Depth of experience in project planning, resourcing, and architecture
* Development of project & product requirements
* Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma and Critical Parameter Management
* High-volume manufacturing processes of disposable, injection molded products
* Demonstrated hands-on R&D; impact as an individual contributor in product development
* Deep understanding of disciplined product development through phase gate processes including regulatory and quality requirements
* Leadership of product design and development for new products with emphasis on middle to back end of product development
* Demonstrated experience with requirements management processes including translation of customer requirements into product requirements, product specifications, and process specifications
* Familiarity with approaches to collect and prioritize customer needs
* Demonstrated ability to develop innovative ideas to solve complex problems and reduce them to practice
* Demonstrated development and implementation of R&D; organizational tools, processes, standards and metrics, including establishment of best practices
* Demonstrated cross functional problem solving skills
