Engineering Associate

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for technical functions in support of engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, modification, fabrication and assembly of electronics and electro\-mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, prototype models and specialized test equipment\. Works on assignments that are complex in nature where independent action and a high degree of initiative are required in resolving problems and developing recommendations\. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may direct the activities of other non\-exempt personnel\.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Carries out responsibilities for technical functions in support of engineering activities\. Applications may include analog or digital electronics, mechanical engineering, or systems operations\.

+ Reviews documentation for clarity, including ECO's, assembly drawings, and procedures\.

+ Familiarity with product structure as documented for Manufacturing\. Responsible for coordinating and initiating documentation efforts for assigned new products\.

+ Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and troubleshooting functions\.

+ Conducts engineering tests and detailed experimental testing to collect design data or assist in research work\.

+ Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment\. Determines methods or actions to remedy malfunctions\.

+ Assists in design, construction, test and checkout of test equipment\.

+ Utilizes manufacturing test, development or diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, BOD, DVM, signal generators and specialized test apparatus\.

+ Trains manufacturing personnel in proper assembly, inspection, and test procedures\.

+ Interacts with vendors to select and procure parts for experimental and test apparatus\.

+ Provides technical guidance to technicians\.

+ Keeps abreast of the basic requirements for compliance in own area of work and complies with those requirements\. Participates as required in training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work\. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management\.

+ Follows BDIS Environmental, Health and Safety \(EH&S\) policies and procedures\. Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area\. Participates in EH&S programs\. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices\. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment\.

+ Performs other related duties and assignments as required\.

**Qualifications**

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

+ Thorough knowledge of digital and analog electronics\.

+ Demonstrated ability to utilize complicated drawings, mathematics, and handbook formulas\.

+ Demonstrated ability to utilize electronic test equipment and instruments such as oscilloscopes, digital volt meters, waveform generators, counters, chart recorders, and optical and mechanical instruments such as lasers, power meters, microscopes, dial indicators, strain gages, pressure gages, thermocouples, and flow meters\.

+ Effective oral and written communication skills\.

+ Effective interpersonal skills\.

+ Effective analytical and problem solving skills\.

Education and Experience:

+ AA in related technology

+ Four years of experience in prototyping, testing and troubleshooting electronic, optical, and mechanical systems

+ OR equivalent combination of related education and experience\.
