Feast your eyes! The long line of Mariano Rivera farewell gifts ends here.
This multi-paneled painting, done by the artist Opie Otterstad, will be presented to Rivera in his final regular season game this Sunday against the Houston Astros.
Rivera, who said a tearful goodbye to Yankee Stadium on Thursday night, will retire this offseason after a remarkable 19-year career.
Otterstad’s painting will be the final gift given to Rivera on his farewell tour, a tour that has seen Rivera receive a broken-bat chair, a giant sand sculpture, a beach cruiser, and a performance from a string quartet.
Rivera has received a boatload of paintings of himself on the farewell tour, including this last one, making us wonder: Where are they all going to go?
He could do a big man-cave basement with a ton of paintings and photos of himself. Or, because he’s Mariano Rivera, he’ll probably auction them off and give the proceeds to his church. Man, we’re going to miss this guy.
