If you’re not a BMX track operator, it might be hard, at first, to understand why you should be interested in the happenings at the USA BMX Summit in Louisville.

So far, we have enjoyed a day and a half of seminars, social events and keynote addresses on things like officiating, coaching, rider retention, points, track maintenance, and many more. And while these topics are not 100% on-point for the dad of a 10 Intermediate, or a 19-27x, a AA Pro or a team manager, the underlying content of what is being discussed affects all BMX racers in North America, on every level.

True, you don’t have to understand how the sausage is made to chomp down a redhot at the ballpark (in fact sometimes it’s better you DON’T know, as far as that goes). But a better understanding of how the BMX game works, and how you can play a bigger role in something like rider recruitment and retention are good for everyone in the sport to understand–to say nothing of understanding some of the new programs USA BMX is working hard to bring to the membership in the coming year.

The “First 10 Weeks” coaching program; the STEM and “Read to Ride” programs for the schools, and any number of other initiatives point to some bright prospects for expanding the flock in the coming years.

So, if you can’t be here in Louisville soaking up all the information, be sure you keep it with BMX News for the headlines and backstory happening here in the Derby City.
