I have to agree that it is an expensive event. So is the cup final in London, or a Grand Prix in Monaco. Some people have been known to pay £25 to watch Sunderland play Newcastle!
I think that the German rumors are just that - and miss informed to boot.
BMW are organizing the event over the two days, including the costs over which we have no control at all. There are a total of 1000 places for club members with cars and bikes. This I have known for three or four weeks, since my last tele-conference with the BMW Clubs European Federation (UK and Scandinavian clubs only). Olimpia Park can only take 1000 vehicles as it is in the very centre of Munich. However, you can also be sure that most European club members who get tickets will have no problems, as they don't have a strip of sea between them and Munich.
World wide there are some 250,000 club members, many of which are sure to wish to attend, and have pockets full of cash. The event will be held in the Olimpia Park, and will be completely full on the days mentioned. In addition, there is a major trade fair happening in Munich on the same weekend, so there will be no hotels available in the immediate area, or so our tour organizer tells us. He has had to reserve space up to 50 km away. BMW has completely misjudged the numbers and has been totally late in passing any information down the line. I got mine directly from the President of the BMW Clubs International Council, and he informed me that BMW had allocated one person in the office to run the set up, when I complained about lack of response (still waiting after three weeks).
There will be other events worldwide as part of the celebrations, including one in the UK.
As soon as I am informed of these, you will be informed also.
That is all I know on the subject as of today. I am as angry as you are!
However, I have to be fair to all our members, and the suggestion that I have put to the board with regard to how to distribute tickets in my post above, is in my mind one of the fairest.
As to the value for money (regardless of traveling costs which are subjective), I do know that BMW will give top class hosting whatever the ticket price.
