More About Our Winners

2015 Hometown Hero - Patricia Kinney, Ph.D.

"For Your Exemplary Contributions, Stellar Achievements and Servant Leadership of our Outstanding Citizenry"

Dr. Patricia Kinney has lived an amazing life! Throughout her entire 47 year career, she has focused unselfishly on others. Serving as an advocate for children and families, she worked directly with young children and their teachers as the Head of School at Country Day School in McLean, VA, a teacher at Broad Creek Country Day School in Ft. Washington, MD, and as the founder and teacher of KinderLove, a school for young children located in Ft. Washington, MD. Dr. Kinney then took her gifts to the university level where she taught and supervised students to become early childhood professionals. She did this at George Washington University, Charles County Community College, and for 17 years at the University of Maryland, College Park where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Master's in Early Childhood Education, and Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. Dr. Kinney's career took her to the Federal Government where she served as the Chief of the Division of Family and Workplace Initiatives and Program and Disabilities Coordinator at the Department of State; the Program Manager for the Child Development Center Project at the National Science Foundation; as the Director of Work/Life Programs Government-wide and around the globe for the Office of Personnel Management, and as the Program Manager for the National Child Care Program of the General Services Administration during which time she provided national oversight and leadership for 100 child care centers across the United States in which she established certification protocols for each, operations manuals, procedures, and policies. During this time in her career she became a sought-after speaker and presenter on early-childhood intervention, developed national policies and promoted a vision for quality, affordable, child care for Federal employees.

What is Dr. Kinney most proud of? She has been married to her loving husband, Brian, for the past 50 years, is the mother of four wonderful, creative, ambitious, and loving children - Scott ('85), Jeff ('89), Patrick and Annmarie - and grandmother of seven grandchildren.
