Hello all, recently new GoPro user and new DR 12.5 user (new to video editing all around). After messing around with GoPro Studio for a few months, I came to realize how limited it is, and how difficult it was to get the type and style of finished product I was after. Recently I stumbled upon DR 12.5 and have been enamored with it. So I read about one user's method of using GoPro's automatically-created low-res versions of video files (.LRV files renamed to .mp4) during editing in Davinci Resolve, and then replacing those files with the full-res original files prior to rendering.

I decided to try it on a recent edit. The LRV files are all 17:xx minutes long, so I pulled out several subclips from each longer clip and placed those into the project Bin, and then pulled them into the timeline. I normally shoot and edit GoPro video in 60fps (59.94), but the LRV files that it creates are 29.97 fps and 240p I think. It works great for editing, but getting the files replaced with the original files has been a nightmare so far, proving impossible.

So I placed the renamed LRV files in a folder for the project, and put another folder in there with it for the high-res files. I went through the LRV clips and created several sub-clips with various in/out points, and pulled them into the Bin for the project. I placed the subclips into the timeline with all my text titles, transitions, etc. Since I normally edit 60fps video, I got the warning about the low-res files not matching the project settings, asking if I wanted to update the project settings (to 29.97). I declined, since I use an animated outro sequence that is 59.94 fps.

Now the edit is finished, and I'm trying to either relink or replace entirely the low-res files with the high-res versions (same file names). I have tried relinking the subclips, that didn't work. I tried moving the LRV files elsewhere, and placing the high-res files in the same location. It appears to work at first, but then apparently the time codes are all wrong because all the subclip edits are in the complete wrong place. It also seems like the files are running in slow motion, despite the project timeline and the clips both being 59.94 fps. I tried changing the directory location of the clips to the one with the high-res files, and got the same result as simply moving the high-res files.

I have searched high and low, Googled the internet for what seems like hours on end last night, searched through the DR 12.5 1200+ page manual, to no avail. I just can't seem to get this to work. I really don't want to have to start the edit over from scratch if at all possible, even though Optimized Media would probably work for what I want. I just wanted to give this method a try since the low-res files from the GoPro are already there. But the difference in FPS seems to really be messing it up, if that's actually the problem, which I'm not sure about.

Is there some setting or method that I'm overlooking? Please be nice. I'm just a n00b editor making videos for YouTube as a hobby.
