Recap – EAC 6

The fans of Fredericktown and surrounding areas came out to pack the venue for what could very well be the last EAC event; hopefully this is not the case. Those in attendance ended the night on a good note as the hometown favorite, Nick Stuff, was able to retain his heavyweight title when be bested Branden Myers in the second round.

The co-main event of the evening almost ended prematurely as Chris McKinney apparently caught a poke to the eye forcing him to drop to his knees. After the doctor was able to check him, the fight resumed. Not long after he was able to slip on a rear-naked choke to finish his opponent Aaron Neighbors.

See the rest of the results from EAC 6 as well our customary “of the Night” award recipients after the break.

Schooley retires
It was a dominating performance from Corey Schooley, who remains undefeated after his win over Tyler Tower. Schooley was able to control the fight from beginning to end but was never able to put the finishing touch on his opponent. Between the second and third rounds, Tower made his way to the corner where he dropped to his hands and knees. He was complaining to this corner that he was not able to see. This prompted the cageside physician to examine Tower. After several minutes discussing his issues with the doctor, the fight was called off.

During the post-fight interview, Schooley stated to his friends and family that this was going to be his last MMA fight. He then informed the crowd that he was going to enter the world of boxing. Some of his teammates were unaware of this, surprised like the rest of us. We did not get the opportunity to catch up with Schooley to confirm his move into the world of boxing. He leaves cagefighting with an undefeated record.

Champion in the making
One of the fighters that made a lasting impression was Kyle Horner. He of course won our Performance of the Night award with his commanding presence inside the cage, although it ended quickly. His opponent and he were both sitting with perfect records as they entered the night. The LJJA fighter looked like a veteran, showcasing high-level technical skills that all too often is not seen in a fighter early in their career.

This is one talented individual that you will want to keep your eyes on. As long as he keeps up his training, he will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with in the amateur lightweight division.

End of the road?
Several days ago EAC promoter Roger Moran took to his Facebook leaving the following message, “The very last EAC fight show is in Fredericktown tomorrow! … I want to thank every single fighter that has been apart of shows and the fans for your the support! Without you this isn’t possible! A lot of great fights and a lot of great memories!! Thank you and I hope to see you all tomorrow“.

We spoke with Mr. Moran after the event was over to ask him if this was, in fact, his last event. The successful show seemed to leave a glimmer of hope for the fight fans that this was not the last. He did not rule out that this would be the end for the promotion. Depending on how everything works out over the next week that we could see another show, just not soon. We here at BluegrassMMA, along with the fans, hope this is not the end!
