DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University head football coach David Cutcliffe and his staff announced on Wednesday that 17 student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to join the Blue Devil gridiron program.
The class includes one quarterback, one punter, seven linemen and eight backs. A total of seven states are represented in the group as Duke signed a class-high seven student-athletes from Georgia and three from California. The group includes two student-athletes from both Florida and North Carolina and one apiece from Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania.
The two in-state prospects are lineman Twazanga Mugala (Charlotte) and punter Austin Parker (Mount Pleasant). Mugala posted a school single-season record 16.5 quarterback sacks as a senior while helping Ardrey Kell High School to 10 victories while Parker, who helped Mount Pleasant High School to a 12-3 record in 2014, is rated the No. 8 punter in the nation by247Sports.com.
Georgia is represented with back Keyston Fuller (Griffin), back Jordan Hayes (Loganville), back Jeremy McDuffie (Snellville), lineman Trevon McSwain (Suwanee), lineman Zach Morris (Ringgold), lineman Marquies Price (Fort Valley) and back T.J. Rahming (Powder Springs). Fuller is an ESPN.com four-star prospect out of Griffin High School who earned first team all-state honors from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2014 while Hayes, who attends Grayson High School, helped the East squad to a 24-3 win by recording an interception in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.
McDuffie is rated as a top-50 cornerback nationally by both ESPN.com and Rivals.com and, as a junior, won the 110 high hurdles, 300 intermediate hurdles and triple jump while leading Shiloh High School to the Georgia 6A state track and field championship. A senior at Lambert High School, McSwain is the No. 39 defensive end in the country according to ESPN.comwhile Morris was the Georgia Region 6 AAA Defensive Player of the Year after posing 54 tackles with six sacks for Ringgold High School. Price helped Peach County to the Georgia Region 2 championship in 2014 and is rated as the No. 36 weakside defensive end in the nation by Rivals.com while Rahming, who caught 70 passes for 1,546 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior at McEachern High School, scored a pair of touchdowns in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Joining Duke are three California products in back Ben Humphreys (Newport Beach), lineman Reno Rosene (Westlake Village) and back Aaron Young (Murrieta). Humphreys, a consensus top-25 linebacker nationally out of Mater Dei High School, logged three tackles for loss while returning an interception for a touchdown in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Rosene is charted as the No. 36 offensive tackle in the country by Rivals.com and was an all-state pick out of Oaks Christian High School while Young registered 61 pass receptions for 1,083 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior at Murrieta Valley High School.
Florida natives Zach Baker (Green Cove Springs) and Brandon Boyce (Fort Lauderdale) signed with the Blue Devils. Baker, listed as the No. 19 center in the nation by Scout.com, helped Clay High School to 10 victories as a senior while Boyce, ranked as the No. 43 defensive tackle in the country by Rivals.com, lifted St. Thomas Aquinas to the state championship as a senior by logging nine tackles including 4.5 tackles for loss in the 31-0 title game win over Osceola.
Back Brandon Feamster, a product of Exton, Pa., signed with the Blue Devils after helping helping Cheshire (Conn.) Academy to an 8-1 record with 31 tackles and three interceptions. Prior to his year at Cheshire, Feamster was a first team all-conference and all-area selection as a senior at Downingtown High School. Back Joe Giles-Harris, a native of Nyack, N.Y., had 95 tackles and four interceptions as a senior at St. Joseph Regional (N.J.) High School and is charted as the No. 42 outside linebacker in the nation by Rivals.com. Quentin Harris, a Wilton, Conn., native, is the No. 22 dual-threat quarterback in the country by ESPN.com after throwing for 2,897 yards with 26 touchdowns over his final two prep campaigns.
