Dominick Cruz’s 13-fight win streak came to an end with the help of slick footwork and fast hands from Cody Garbrandt. The 25-year-old seemed comfortable from the beginning and continued to remain composed throughout, even after getting rocked by Cruz in the second frame.
Dominick Cruz was hurt multiple times in the third and fourth rounds as Garbrandt continuously showed laser-like precision and a sizeable gap in speed. It should be noted that Garbrandt looked just as fresh in round 5 as he did in round 1. He remains undefeated and now moves to 11-0 as the new UFC bantamweight champion.
What was the highlight of the fight?
Garbrandt dropped Cruz multiple times throughout his unanimous decision title win, but it was his post fight behavior that might be the highlight of this fight. After receiving his shiny new UFC belt, “No Love” wrapped the gold around the waste of his long-time friend, and leukemia survivor, Maddux Maple. True championship behavior was on display from Garbrandt.
Where do these two go from here?
The new UFC bantamweight champion Garbrandt holds all of the cards as to who will challenge him next for the crown. In his post fight in-cage interview, Garbrandt welcomed a fight with TJ Dillashaw, in so many words. Plenty of credence should be given to an instant rematch with Cruz, who has not suffered a loss since Urijah Faber in 2007.
Dominick Cruz has been at the pinnacle of MMA for the good part of the last decade. There is the possibility of running it back with Garbrandt right away, or perhaps he will take a fight with John Lineker, who lost tonight to TJ Dillashaw. A superfight rematch with longtime UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is always an intriguing matchup that has sat on the back burner for some time now.

Many knockdowns occurred in this fast paced bantamweight title fight. Cody Garbrandt provided ample high jinks as he does the robot and even drops down for some push-ups mid-fight. This fight should be watched immediately
