Whith Ronda Rousey tied up in this season of the Ultimate Fighter and Miesha Tate, and no. 1 contender Cat Zingano waiting in the wings, the UFC is looking to make matches for it's other top-tier women fighters. Liz Carmouche, the former no. 1 contender and former Marine, is a natural fit for the UFC's upcoming Fight for the Troops card. And Kevin Iole at Yahoo reports that she's looking to rebuild her title aspirations with a matchup against the UFC's no. 6 ranked Women's bantamweight in Alexis Davis.
Davis is a Cesar Gracie black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and much like Carmouche a woman on the rise at 135 lbs. She enters this contest on a 3-fight winning streak, her most recent being her UFC debut against Rosi Sexton. She's one of the few fighters in the UFC women's ranks to posess a true high level Jiu Jitsu game and could be a real threat to a fighter like Carmouche who looks to dominate principally with raw strength and ground and pound. Carmouche, herself, is coming of the most impressive win of her career, a second round TKO over Jessica Andrade at UFC on Fox 8.
If Carmouche wants to get another crack at the title Davis is a perfect step up in competition. Unlike Andrade, Davis is fairly close in height and her strong grappling pedigree means that she'll test Carmouche's submission defense. Likewise for Davis, Carmouche is a big strong, physically imposing bantamweight and exactly the kind of fighter she needs to beat to prove that she has a shot at the title.
