Jon Jones has been talking up a 2014 superfight with Cain Velasquez lately and oddsmakers jumped right on it, making Cain a sizable favorite.
Last week in Toronto, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones straight up told a crowd of people that he's looking to fight UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez in 2014. While it sounds a little unlikely at the moment, the bout could possibly take place. Oddsmakers are usually willing to put out lines on anything that seems remontely likely since they aren't going to lose anything on it if it doesn't happen, so BetOnline jumped on this one. And Cain is a sizable favorite (via BestFightOdds):
Jones also stated that he walks around at around 230, and would like to put on 10 pounds if he did move up to face Cain so they'd be the same size. If the bout actually ever became a reality, would you have Velasquez pegged as that much of a favorite? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't - Jones is a monster, despite what happened at UFC 165 against Alexander Gustafsson.
First off though, Jones will have to defend his light heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira in the next few months. Velasquez isn't booked for a title defense right now due to shoulder issues, but if he doesn't need surgery he's expected to face Fabricio Werdum somewhere down the line.
