With a brand new mystery, “Hoax Hunters” #10 sets the stage for a creepy, dark, and entertaining final arc of its first season. If you haven’t jumped on the “Hoax Hunters” series before, this is the perfect place to start.

An ancient and demonic book that was supposed to remain guarded and hidden has just been discovered missing. Disguised as a reality TV show, the Hoax Hunters was created to investigate paranormal activities, while disproving the existence of the supernatural. Suddenly, there have been many weird sightings in the past 48 hours, causing the Hoax Hunters teams to worry. Could this missing demon book be the source of this mayhem? Ken Cadaver and Jack have a lot more trouble in their hands when Regan decides take on this case alone.
Writers Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley focus on the mysterious origins of Regan, who wants to know more about her origin. The narrative switches back and forth between Regan’s past and present, hinting at a buried secret. Readers get to see Regan’s troubled teenage years as she tried living underground with her single mother. Focusing on her tormented history, Moreci and Seeley have developed Regan into more than just the plucky comic relief, the sexy geeky girl of the Hoax Hunters pack.
Interestingly, Moreci and Seeley could be foreshadowing the possible breakup of the Hoax Hunters. In this installment, Moreci and Seeley introduce a couple new characters for the Hoax Hunters crew, which could only mean one thing. Could someone in the Hoax Hunters possibly die in the next upcoming issues? Could one of the original Hoax Hunters become a victim in this latest case? I really want to see how this subplot develops.
As the new series artist, T-Rex Jones takes a much darker and creepier look to the storyline. Starting off with a bleak tone, teenage Regan finds herself surrounded by an angry of protestors. Jones heightens the suspense in the panels as a protestor actually throws a brick across, aiming for Regan’s head. In her flashbacks, Regan looks like she is starving, as if she hasn’t been eating while being on the run.
In a splash page, Jones captures the tension and danger that quickly approaches for the Hoax Hunters. While on the rooftop, thousands of birds circle around the dead astronaut named Murder. In a nice touch of detail, Jones even illustrates the motion blur of the birds flapping their wings. Through his gloomy imagery, Jones takes away any kind of hope when Murder is found floating in front of the sun.
Newcomers will be able to jump right in with the latest mystery of “Hoax Hunters” 10. Though the tone is darker than previous issues, the characters continue to be as engaging as ever. For regular followers, the “Hoax Hunters” series continues to be a great read.
