I came, I saw, I swept the church!

Had a lovely trip to see my writing pal Alix in Devon following last week’s Cornwall visit. The sun shone (quite a lot) and after a little walk around Belstone, near Okehampton, it was good deed time as it was Alix’s turn to clean their little parish church.

There are some cool connections to the distant past inside, like ancient flagstones with barely legible script. Plus a few hundred dust bunnies and some leaves! Outside there were quite a few gravestones featuring very old ex-residents – one was 82 when they died around 1840. Imagine what that meant in those days, when the population in the UK was only 27 million, which was only half of what it grew to the 1960s. Life expectancy was only around 40 back then, on average (half what it is now.) So it might be like coming across a 120 year old nowadays! Wonder what made that person live so long. I love the whole historical aspect of churches, and the tangible link to our pasts.

Alix and I also went for a lovely lunch in another VERY old building – the pub in South Zeal, a few miles away. It was apparently the resting point for travellers in the 1400/1500s, and you can see evidence of that from the size and shape of the windows with their Tudor rose insignia.

A lovely visit – and almost lovely weather! Must go back again soon. Now that I’m staying at home for July and August (a combination of reasons but mostly budget and needing to get books done), I will do little ‘staycations!’

Prai Competition AND new Today’s Special Value Sunday midnight! Look at this smashing prize worth over £50! All you need to do is to leave a comment on the bottom of this blog saying ‘enter me’ and if you like, tell me what your favourite Prai item is or why you want to try it for the first time. Five winners will be chosen at random out of all the entrants! See QVC’s standard T&C’s here. Competition closes at noon on Thursday 14th July and winners will be announced in next Friday’s blog. Good luck!

The Prai Today’s Special Value is launching with me and lovely Cathy Kangas on Sunday night at midnight – fresh from my visit to the Kent County Show all weekend, well some of it – helping on the Medical Detection Dogs stand – do drop by! Info below.

SNIPPETS

Lolly and my Grandpogs Had a nice trip to the cinema and supper with my lovely daughter. Stopped off for a quick pogger with the dogs! The two spaniels Baloo and Luna are such different personalities. I tried to cuddle both and Lauren videoed what happened – do go see both videos and how different they are, on my newsletter on my website here. Love them to bits! God knows what I’ll be like when it’s proper children! Lol. Couple of years off yet, I reckon…

First big bouquet Lolly’s garden is starting to look nice. Mine is beginning to produce lots of blooms too! Here’s my first fabulous bouquet – with tons of alstroemeria – one of my faves! The rose in the centre is so fragrant and priddyyyy! More hopefully each week through the summer.

Nailed it! With help from Deborah Lipmann  A new gel-effect nail set from celebrity celebrity designer Deborah Lipmann who’s back on our screens on the  19th July.  Lolly decided to try out the base and top coat and a lovely powder blue colour – it really comes up a treat! There’s a lot of choice from her range too but always sells fast. Go here to see the range and bag a bargain. Her base and top coat creates the plump gel effect and can be worn with any varnish!

I loved spending time with my girl and of course the reason for the visit was to go to the movies!

Watch – “Absolutely Fabulous!” We went to see the film of the moment – the big screen version of one of my fave sitcoms from back in the day – definitely one to watch if you were a fan of the original series, which my family were. And it didn’t let us down – with no fewer than THREE of our own QVC guests starring or having cameos as well – lovely Lulu, Kelly Hoppen and even Joan Collins! (If I’ve omitted anyone, leave a comment for me below.) It’s not the most amazing plot but I loved the performances and how Jennifer Saunders moved the characters’ lives to the current day. Reaaalllly funny in parts, too. So – 8 out of 10 for nostalgia. Do go see it if you loved the ridiculousness of it all – you won’t be disappointed, and Jennifer and Patsy are particularly funny.

Joan Collins’ ‘Sadie’ lippy is my favourite but look at her range here and in particular, this ‘last clicks’ set on our website – such great value! £33.75 for five items including perfume, lippy, nail varnish etc!

Kelly Hoppen bargains here including this clearance priced single 800tc bedding set!

Lulu skincare is very impressive, including the super value home and away 4-piece set to kick you off with a bargain priced introduction to the range. Try it!

Vlogs This week it was back to the ‘Woman Walking in the Woods’ dog-vlog routine, having got back from my travels, including this one which was a bit swampy! If you click ‘like’ on the Facebook page, they’ll come up on your newsfeed when I do new ones! Also did a little video with Rosa for Yankee candles just before our show too – lots of little sneaky peeks regularly posted too, on my official Facebook page is here. (You can still access it if you are not on Facebook.)

Wimbledon Week Went to meet my pal Carolyn Mahony to chat about our current novels at a restaurant at St Pancras and had a lovely catch up. On the way, no parking in my usual station car park – realised it was because of the tennis – duh! Tons of people were waiting for the special buses and it took me back to when I used to work in the competitors’ restaurant – ahh what tales I could tell! But I daren’t… Haha! No, seriously, the worst thing that happened was eg John McEnroe putting mayonnaise on his strawberries thinking it was cream. Anyway, this pic is outside Wimbledon Station – the closest I’ll get this year!

Camouflage Makeup Bag – no, not a bag for camouflage makeup, but this great idea from the crazy camouflage sisters Corinne and Louise. It’s part of a two -item set, called ‘multipurpose pouches’ and I love that they hold all my makeup upright, meaning I reach into it and take out what I need, without needing to continuously spread it all out and put it all away afterwards. Brilliant! I used them when I was away and it did save time and irritation!

Facebook Funny – bless! Nice thought, eh? Does this resonate with you too?

BLOOPERS  – considering this week’s film review, here are some Absolutely Fabulous outtakes!

Plus a funny from this week on air on qvc when Jill and Glenn Campbell got a big Conga’d during our Clearance fashion show!

Book of the Week – The Trouble with Love is my writing pal’s first novel, published by Sphere, and on pre-order, sounds fabulous if you need a summer read click here

Plus – very chuffed – my first novel is on special offer!

The audio book is down to just £2.99! Amazing! I’ve put all the info on the new riwisi blog here. You’ll also find the details about the ebook that’s just £1.68 currently too! Let me know what you think. Delighted to read this latest online review from Denise W.

‘’I downloaded this as a holiday read, knowing that it’s not something I would normally pick up. I have read Debbie Flint’s TTFLS weight loss book and enjoyed her writing style so thought I’d give it a go. I’m so glad I did. I finished it in two hits, loved Mac and recognised a few people in Sadie! Uncomplicated yet enthralling, simple, but so well written you won’t want to put it down. A thoroughly enjoyable read!‘

Mojo has Gone Walkies! Thought this was funny! Time to restart resolutions or diets for summer? Get that bodyblade out! Next week I’ll have a report back from the Bodybladers’ get together this Saturday at Rochester Castle and recording a new Supersix from there! Ps my Back to You blogs may help on my website B2U tab here.

Come to See me at the Kent County Show this Weekend! Not long now till the Medical Detection Dogs team sets out its stall – literally – at one of the South East’s biggest country shows, 8, 9, 10th July. We will be opposite the Steam Traction Engines or some such in a mini marquee – do come and find us! A cool Lucky Dip whilst stocks last – might go on the first day tho’ – very good prizes! I’m aiming to attend on the Friday after lunch and Saturday mid to late pm. Hope to see you there! Lots of pics and videos will be on my Facebook page and on the blog I’ll be putting on my website here on Monday!

Watch MDD dog Magic wake owner during the night as her blood sugar plunges. This gives an insight to how the MDD dogs are an invaluable part of their owners lives – imagine going to bed not knowing whether you will definitely wake up in the morning, and now you have a safeguard covered in fur with a waggy tail. And like Claire says in the video – he does it all for a biscuit! This is why I love helping raise funds for MDD. (For those who asked, you can donate by texting – eg ‘MDDC14 £2 to 70070.) link is here.

Deb’s Newsletter – as usual here’s a little summary of some of the shenanigans I’ve been up to over the last week, including links to other blogs too.
