State Rep. Mike Unes seeking his third term in the 91st district faces a former Pekin city councilman who’d like to upset the incumbent.
Chad Schmidgall served one term on the Pekin City Council before tossing his hat into the legislative ring last year.
Unes, 40, of East Peoria points to his responsiveness and high level of constituent services as in his bid for re-election. The Republican said he’ll try to instill honesty and transparency in Springfield, and specifically into the state’s troubled budget.
Schmidgall, a 38-year-old architect from Pekin, cites public school funding, pension reform — assuming the package passed last session will be ruled unconstitutional — and expansion of medical marijuana among his top ticket issues.
The 91st district includes parts of Tazewell, Fulton and Peoria County including all or parts of all or parts of the communities of East Peoria, Pekin, Canton, Lewistown, Farmington, Cuba, Bartonville, Marquette Heights, Mapleton, Kingston Mines and Creve Coeur.
