Penalty to Villa! Ben Foster is performing like he’s doing a circus routine! After getting away with one howler, he concedes a penalty by bringing down Agbonlahor. And Benteke calmly rolls the penalty into the net to ignite celebrations taht are anything but calm. Villa 2-1 WBA

9.34pm GMT

Sunderland, it must be said, have that comic-tragic tendency that characteristics many relegated teams: having said that, Wickham escaped mortification just now, as his unwitting touch just missed his own goal. Swindon, meanwhile, are being soundly humiliated, as they now trail 3-0 at home to Gillingham. Shrewsbury are consolidating their lead at the summit of League Two

9.31pm GMT

Alan Hutton has been booked - just booked - for ramming his foot into Saido Berahino’s most sensitive parts.

9.29pm GMT

Curtis Main is the man at Deepdale as he heads Doncaster into a 2-1 lead over Preston. Joe Bunney is proving an unlucky charm for Crewe, as he has put Rochdale 4-0 up.

9.26pm GMT

GOAL! Bolton 1-0 Reading Le Fondre scampers down the right and pulls the ball back to Gudjohnsen, who thunders it into the top of the net from 13 yards. Elsewhere, Forrester has equalised for Doncaster at Preston, meaning Bristol City are the only one of the League One top five leading.

9.25pm GMT

GOAL! Southampton 1-0 Palace Sadio Mane produces a lovely finish to punish Speroni for a blunder and end Saints’ hellish wait for a goal. The Champions League charge is back on!

9.23pm GMT

Sheffield United’s pain has just got worse: Conor Washington has scored in the last minute for Peteroborough to make it 2-1.

9.23pm GMT

Jack Payne gives joy to Peterborough by equalising at Sheffield United. Ian Henderson deepens Crewe’s agony by giving Rochdale a 3-0 lead from the Spotland spot.

9.21pm GMT

GOAL! Hull 1-1 Sunderland Rodwell gives Sunderland hope! Van Aanholt, introduced off the bench, tees up a wonderful cross and Rodwell nods it in from close range! Stand back, folks, Steve Bruce could blow!

9.17pm GMT

GOAL! Brighton 1-0 Derby The Rams’ place at the top of the table is plunged in jeopardy as Dale Stephens for Brighton. Brentford, meanwhile, have gone 3-1 up on Huddersfield.

9.16pm GMT

Now that Chesterfield realise Im paying attention, they go and equalise. Gary Roberts is the man who wants his name in lights .. or, at least, in black type on a discreet webpage.

9.13pm GMT

In all the excitement I may have neglected to mention the MK Dons-Chesterfield game, which is currently 1-0 to the home side thanks to Lewis Baker.

9.12pm GMT

Elmohammady races down the wing and crosses for Ndoye, who nuts it over the bar.

9.11pm GMT

Tadic tricks his way into a crossing position and then feeds Pelle, whose shot is blocked. And on that note, Pelle is replaced by Long.

9.10pm GMT

GOAL! Villa 1-1 WBA Lescott nods the ball back across the face of goal and Berahino stopps to turn it into the net. That was West Brom’s first shot of the match and now Villa have to do something even rarer: score a second.

9.08pm GMT

GOAL! Orient 1-3 Bristol City The Os are staying in the relegation zone for now, and Bristol City remain comfortably atop League One thanks to Aaron Wilbraham.

9.06pm GMT

GOAL! Rochdale 2-0 Crewe Joe Bunney has pulled one out of the hat.

9.04pm GMT

More woe for Sunderland as Lee Cattermole collects a booking that rules him out of their forthcoming matches against Villa and West Ham.

9.00pm GMT

GOAL! Barnsley 1-0 Coventry George Waring gives Tony Mowbray a warning off the task awaiting him at the Ricoh. Meanwhile, Bertrand has wellied a shot over the bar as Southampton desperately try to end their scoring problems. Dusan Tadic is about to come on to help that cause.

8.58pm GMT

Brentford are back in front against Huddersfield, as Long makes it 2-1. Meanwhile at Southampton, the home were nearly caught on the counter by Palace.Forster batted away a shot from Bolasie and Schneiderlin (I think) was dispossessed as he dithered and Puncheon banged a low effort across goal ... and it bounced out off the post!

8.53pm GMT

GOAL! Cambridge 0-2 York Michael Coulson is increasing the distance between York and the drop zone. Meanwhile, Bournemouth have regained the lead against Wolves as Kermongant slots a penalty just underneath the keeper.

8.52pm GMT

GOAL! Swindon 0-2 Gillingham Jake Hessenthaler has mde it extremely unlikely that Swindon will be in the automatic promotion slots this evening.

8.50pm GMT

It’s been fairly grueling viewing at St Mary’s until now, but Jason Pucheon nearly injected some thrills but he drove a 10-yard shot straight at Forster after swiveling neatly to escape the attention of two defenders.

8.34pm GMT

It’s half-time at the KC, where referee Mike Dean trudges off the pitch as Sunderland players offer him an impromptu performance appraisal. Angry faces all round.

8.32pm GMT

Did I mention that Charlton have regained the lead against Forest? Bulot did the damage again.

8.31pm GMT

York are soaring up the table thanks to Wes Fletcher’s goal at Cambridge. Cardiff are now dishing out the sort of beating at Rotherham not seen since, well, Millwall fans descended on south Yorkshire, as Conor McAleny has made it 3-0 to the visitors.

8.29pm GMT

“Hang on, Northampton (the wife’s team) may have scored, but they’re at home to Pompey and why no mention of (my team) Morecambe’s goal at Oxford?” storms Bruce Jackson. “It’s nip and tuck in the middle of League Two you know!” Kevin Ellison is the man trying to make the Oxford-Morecombe clash exciting.

8.27pm GMT

Oh Pelle! The Southampton striker’s woes continue as he pokes the ball wide after Speroni spills the ball straight to him. Koeman must consider replacing him with Long at half-time.

8.26pm GMT

Wacky hijinks at the KC Stadium, where Rodwell goes down under a challenge by the home team’s keeper. Sunderland appeal for a penalty but the ref books the Sunderland player for diving! Gus Poyet vents his frustration on the sideline .... and is sent to the stands! On his way Poyet exchanges words with Steve Bruce, who reacts with fury and the pair have to be separated by ta linesman... who then becomes embroiled in a kerfuffle with Bruce! Eventually peace is restored ... but you get the impression that the lull may not last long. Tempers are not merely at breaking point, but chucking-the-tv-through-the-window point. Elsewhere, Fred Onyedinma has put Wycombe back in front at Tranmere. And Wolves have equalised at Bournemouth thanks to a smart finish by Benik Afobe.

8.25pm GMT

8.22pm GMT

Fraser Forsterdrops a cross but recovers just in time to prevent Zaha from turning it into the net. Meanwhile at Yeovil, the home side are trailing because of a Walsall goal by Jordy Hiwula.

8.19pm GMT

Here’s one from our straight-to-the-point bureau: Adam Dugdale has scored a goal for Tranmere to make it 1-1 between them and Wycombe. And Charlie Wyke, or Charles to his mates, has put Carlisle in front against Cheltenham.

8.17pm GMT

Kike has made it 2-0 to Boro, with the Millwall defence surely due to an assist for a slapstick contribution. Meanwhile, Cody McDonald has dented Swindon’s promotion challenge by netting for Gillingham.

8.14pm GMT

GOAL! Boro 1-0 Millwall Patrick Bamford has struck to reduce the chance of Millwall closing the gap on Rotherham near the bottom of the Championship, with Rotherham now 2-0 down at home to Cardiff following a superb volley from Macheda.

8.12pm GMT

GOALS GOALS GOALS! A Scott Harrison own goal has gifted Dagenham & Redbridge the lead at Hartlepool. Meanwhile, Gabon’s Bruno Ecuele Manga has put Cardiff in front at Rotherham with a powerful header from a corner. Ricky Holmes has scored for Northampton against Pompey, and Paul Hayes has converted a penalty to give promotion-chasing Wycombe the lead at Tranmere.

8.10pm GMT

Jermaine Defoe has squandered another chance for Sunderland, his second so far. IF he keeps up this form, Sunderland are going to have to rely on Danny Graham for a goal, and that’s never a comfortable position to be in.

8.09pm GMT

GOAL! Brentford 1-1 Huddersfield Totally against the run of play but a neat finish all the same, as Bunn shuffles quickly at the edge of the area and smashes a low shot into the far corner.

8.08pm GMT

GOAL! Villa 1-0 WBA A sensation at Villa Park, as the home team score! It’s Agbonlahor’s first in 15 matches and, as if that wasn’t embarrassing enough for the visitors, the forward shrugged Lescott off with humiliating ease before slotting the ball under Forster.

8.07pm GMT

GOAL! Orient 1-2 Bristol City Freeman scored the first and has now created a second, crossing for Flint to head in.

8.05pm GMT

Ndoye comes close to sneaking a second ... at least he would have done if he’d managed to collect Roberton’s well-intentioned through-ball, but he missed it by a hare’s breath, which is even thinner than a hair’s breadth.

8.03pm GMT

Just so you know: Bolasie against Clyne has been a rollicking battle so far at St Mary’s, where Crystal Palace are still keeping Southampton at bay and carrying a threat on the counter.

8.01pm GMT

GOAL! Hull 1-0 Sunderland Dame is the man, as Ndoye gives the Tigers a precious, possibly predictable lead over the Black Cats.

8.00pm GMT

Bang! Michail Antonio fires a low shot into the net from the corner of the box to pull Forest level at Charlton.

8.00pm GMT

What a save ... eventually! Foster fumbled a snapshot from Agbolahor but clawed the ball backjust as all of it was about to cross the line! Villa just can’t catch a break. So it remains 0-0 between Villa and the Baggies.

7.59pm GMT

GOAL! Orient 1-1 Bristol City Well the Os didn’t hold out very long at all. Luke Freeman has equalised for the table-toppers.

7.58pm GMT

Wes Brown definitely was the player who chopped down Elmohammady just now and, happily, he is also the player who just got booked for it.

7.57pm GMT

GOAL! Bournemouth 1-0 Wolves Wilson is allowed to dig out a cross from the corner flag, and Kermorgant beats the defenders to it and steers it into the net from close range. Sheepish defending by Wolves.

7.56pm GMT

GOAL! Bury 1-0 Luton The shakers could be movers after Soares gives them an early lead over their fellow promotion campaigners.

7.55pm GMT

GOAL! Watford 1-0 Fulham After a corner is only partially cleared, Deeney spanks the ball into the net from nine yards! Smart finish.

7.54pm GMT

GOAL! Charlton 1-0 Forest A lovely freekick from Bulot, curling it over the wall from the edge of the area. That’s one-way to enliven a meaningless mid-table skirmish.

7.52pm GMT

GOAL! Brentford 1-0 Huddersfield Chris Long picks up the ball on the left and then skedadaddles across field before whacking a shot into the top corner from 20 yards!

7.51pm GMT

GOAL! Orient’s attempt to climb out of the relegation spots gets an early boost thanks to Chris Dagnall. Can they hold on against the league leaders?

7.50pm GMT

GOAL! Jamie Proctor grabs the first goal of the evening, firing Fleetwood in front against Scunthorpe. Meanwhile at St Mary’s, Schneiderlin has just botched a freekick in a promising position.

7.43pm GMT
