In the last few years, I’ve had a lot of (I hope) healthy conversations about leadership development with friends in ministry. Some folks I know are absolutely killing it. They have a defined strategy, they’re working it, and seeing men and women prepared for ministry in a variety of capacities. Others have been super-honest and simply said, “I have no idea, but we need to do something.”

I share that, not to criticize, but to let you know that if you’re in the latter group, you’re not alone. But leadership development is essential to the life of any organization—especially the church. In our churches, we can’t afford to not be developing leaders. It’s part of what it means to make disciples: equipping people to do the work of the ministry, and equipping them well.

That’s why I’m excited about a new book by Eric Geiger and Kevin Peck. Eric is a VP at LifeWay Christian Resources (where I work) and Senior Pastor of Clearview Baptist Church in Franklin, TN. Kevin is a pastor at The Austin Stone in Austin, TX. And both are passionate about equipping leaders to train other leaders.

Today, thanks to my pals at B&H, I’m giving away two copies of Eric and Kevin’s new book, Designed to Lead: The Church and Leadership Development. To enter, use the handy-dandy Rafflecopter widget on the page. (Note: RSS Readers, you may have to click through to access the widget.)

To give you a taste of the book, here are a few favorite quotes:

Biblical leadership development is to “find the faithful who will be able. Not the able that might be faithful.”

A church focused on developing God’s people to serve is a church that knows why she is on the planet, and the people are likely to sense the urgency and significance of the opportunity.

By His design, we are not called to simply be image bearers, but to replicate other image bearers! We are not called to simply be His disciples, but also to make disciples.

Urgency for leadership development is built on three convictions concerning time and space: the shortness of this life, the length of the next life, and the view of physical space.

The written Word is shepherding us to our need for the living Word—for Jesus.

This giveaway closes at the at 12 am CT on Sunday, September 11th. Winners will be notified shortly thereafter.
