When I was 12 year old I had my very first New Orleans Mardi Gras Experience. It was actually a Metairie Parade, but 23 years later this blogging mama has had her fair share of Mardi Gras moments. Now that my children are older, I struggle to find ways to incorporate family vacations into the kid’s school and social schedules. Do you have a teen? Trust me, that girl will NOT miss school for anything. I find myself using Mardi Gras Break as the perfect time to take a few days off of my full-time job, blogging and mommy duties to whisk the family to the beach for a couple days. but I don’t have to go too far to enjoy Mardi Gras AND the Beach!
Alabama Gulf Coast is the perfect family beach destination. Aside from the sugar white sandy beaches, you can find a Mardi Gras right around the corner. Did you know that Mardi Gras in Mobile is actually the oldest annual Carnival celebration in the United States. Yes, Mardi Gras was founded in Alabama in 1703, 15 years before New Orleans started their annual celebration. This February, locals and tourist can expect a month long celebration that runs January 28th until Fat Tuesday, March 4th 2014. Gulf Coast Parades includes Mystics of Pleasure Mardi Gras Parade, Mystical Order of Mirams Parade, Orange Beach Mardi Gras Parade and Gulf Shores Mardi Gras Parade.
