If you like seafood, you’ll love Acme Oyster House. Dishes include gumbo, soft-shell crab, raw and chargrilled oysters, sweet potato fries, catfish, and a po’boy called ‘The Peacemaker’. There’s usually a lineup out the door on busier nights, so you know it’s a good spot.

Restaurant August delivers on French fine dining. The menu boasts potato gnocchi, truffle picatta, foie gras, slow cooked rabbit, curried shrimp bisque, BBQ quail, and goat’s milk cheesecake, among many other options. The food is as decadent as it is pricey – but so worth it.

Compère Lapin may sound French, but they’re serving up Caribbean influenced American dishes like curried goat, lobster and summer squash pasta, roasted beet salad, tomato gazpacho, and spiced pigs ears. The old-school décor and fully stocked bar gives this place its charm.

Avo does Italian the right way, by bringing it back to its roots. Their dishes may look upscale, but they taste homemade in the best way. Menu items include grilled artichokes, polenta, lasagna, clam spaghetti, burrata, rigatoni, and white chocolate semifreddo. Also, their espresso is a must-try.

Willa Jean has a large fan base due in part to their no fuss approach to food. Brunch dishes include a breakfast burrito, cheesy grits, eggs in purgatory, and sticky buns. El Libre is a Cuban cocktail bar that offers customers a unique experience and unique food. Their low-key menu features items like breakfast sandwiches, sweet plantain muffins, avocado and corn salad, a cubano sandwich, coconut and lime cookies and drinks, like the popular Hemingway daiquiri.

Kenton’s Restaurant may be on the pricier side, but it’s well worth it. Aside from the astonishing whiskey selection, the food is top notch. Pulled pork grits, brussel sprout flatbread, red snapper, fried oysters, and lamb carpaccio are among some of Kenton’s most popular dishes.

The food at Primitivo is so good, you’ll have a hard time believing it’s affordable too. Menu items include smoked oysters, gazpacho, fried duck, cornbread, s’mores, and boozy ice cream floats. The restaurant is off the beaten path, small, and quiet. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a great place to grab dinner.

Commander’s Palace makes Louisiana proud with their home-style Cajun grub. Outside, the restaurant is a kitschy turquoise. Inside, the menu boasts shrimp and grits, bread pudding, gumbo, an oyster po’boy, pecan crusted fish, fig and duck pancakes, rib eye, and a bourbon peach cobbler.
