CIRA 2012 Election: Nomination Committee Selections, Member Applications Open - The processes for CIRA's 2012 Board of Directors election are well under way. This year, three Directors will be elected from the Nomination Committee slate, and two Directors will be elected from the Members' slate. One Director is normally elected from the Members' slate, but this year an additional Director is being elected due to a resignation.
The Nomination Committee slate, announced on July 26, consists of Robert Brouillette, Ward Chapin, Dave Chiswell, William Gibson, Hank Intven, John King, Carole Mackaay, and Bill Sandiford.
The call for Members to nominate prospective candidates is open until Monday, August 13. In order to be listed on the Members' slate, nominees must receive the support of 20 CIRA Members.
ICANN Announces Delay of New gTLD Delegations, Seeks Input on Metering - ICANN has announced that it expects to publish all of the new gTLD evaluations in a single batch in June-July 2013, with the result that "the first delegations would occur in late third quarter of 2013, six months later than originally expected". It is calling for comments on how to meter applications into the delegation process, since it has previously been agreed that ICANN would not delegate TLDs faster than 1000 per year.
